dartfrogger
I've been away from marbles for about 10 years, but now I'm feeling the pull back into these beautiful creations. I have a modest collection and am mostly interested in Peltiers, Christensen, Ravenswood, and Akro. But I see that some of the forums I used to visit are defunct, some of my favorite people are gone (how I miss Alan Basinet), and ebay is full of misidentified marbles and sellers unknown to me. Can anyone steer me toward some reliable sellers and sources for marbles? I'm way out in Southern California, so marble shows are out of the question. Please pm me if appropriate, and thanks. Steph
Hi there. There is an Orange County Marble Show in Fullerton. Tends to happen in the first part of the year. Would that be doable for you?
dartfrogger
Yes, that’s less than two hours away. Guess I should start saving my spare change. Thanks.
dartfrogger
Steph: I checked out the Orange County show’s Instagram posts and it seems to be almost exclusively contemporary marbles. Beautiful work, but not my focus. Are there enough vintage marble dealers there to warrant a drive up there? Where did all the “vintage” marbles go? Steph
Al, do you go to that show? What can you say about the vintage marbles there? @Al Oregon
bumblebee
I attended the OC show this year and it was about 25% vintage marbles. Combined with in-room trading a couple days before the show, it was still worth it to me but you cannot be shy anymore and have to dive in with so few sellers. zaboo
the vegas show is next!!! its just the best!!! mostly antique and vintage too. there will be a documentary being filmed on marble collecting too!
Al Oregon
I have not been to the Orange County Show for a couple years, at least. As mentioned above, there were more contemporary dealers at the show itself but there are vintage marble collectors that come to the show and the in-room trading the couple days before the show. The Vegas Show has higher percentage of vintage collectors and the in-room trading is best for that show also.
dartfrogger
Thanks all for your suggestions. The Vegas show sounds amazing, but it's out of reach for me now (time and $). Likewise Seattle. Guess I'll do my shopping online for a while.
