Jarrod
Have been meaning to get my collection appraised, have approx 27,000, they were given to me around 40-45yrs ago by a friend of my father's who was 65-70yrs old & has been passed away now for 20 odd yrs. He said they were given to him as a young boy. Don't know anything before that.. A few later ones may have creeped in as I grew up. Was wondering, what do I have...?? Chad G.
"Welcome to Marble Connection Jarrod" I'll just get you going a bit on some familiar ones !! The first picture is almost all from a manufacture called Vitro, a bunch of which are called all reds Just a general rundown you may have some real sleepers in there with 27,000 marbles Much easier for you as well as the person making the I.D. if you only post 3 or so marbles at a time, that way you can get a more accurate I.D. and be able to bunch you marbles accordingly as to type. 27,000 is a lot of marbles, you must have half a truckload ?? A good portion of these are from the "50's and 60's" Assorted cat eye marbles A few transitional marbles, a clay and one blue Bennington i.e. (glazed clay)
Fire1981
I wonder what the blue/yellow one is in the middle of this last picture. Looks cool.
wvrons
The number one factor with marbles is condition. I see lots of damage and condition issues. No matter how old, or how rare, condition is number one. A mint grade marble worth $100.00 at near mint grade is nm+ $50.00 -- nm- $25.00 and at collector grade $ 5.00-$1.00 . Big numbers of damaged marbles is big numbers of low dollars. Each time glass marbles bang together they can get hit marks. Metal ball bearings are glass marble killers. Usually always ball bearings found in older big collections.
Jarrod
Yeah have taken a lot of ball bearings out over the yrs that seem to find their way in. I keep a lot of them in 1-2 foot high glass vases & any other big glass containers/bowls with cork lids-i like the look.. Not a truck load, but rather a lot of containers-basically anything that is big, has a lid & made of glass. One of them few pics I sent in-they are even in a foot bath.lol 90% of them came from my father's deceased friend who would be around 80-85yrs today I remember him telling me he'd had them since he was a boy & I got them off him almost 40 yrs ago, they have been with me ever since.. Thankyou for the info, much appreciated, I will have another look at some different ones & if i see anything that grabs my eye, i will send more pics in-no doubt there will be.... cheers.
