Berryb
Is this a ravenswood? I thought I found it in Alan's tutorial, close but no seegar. I can't find anything else. Maybe Veliglas? Anyhoo I'm stumped. Thanks Bruce
Ric
I can sure see why you might think Ravenswood but I think it's an Alley.
Berryb
I got no problem with an Alley ID, but what do you see that makes you think that? I gotta learn this stuff or Steph's gonna bust me back to "rank beginner". Thanks Bruce
Ric
This would be so much easier if we were next to one another holding that marble, but I'll give you a couple of tips. First, I have seen that "thick multi-filamentous wispy striping" (for lack of better terminology) on quite a few Alleys. And second, if you look at the cut-off (seam sorta) on the top of the marble as you posted it, it sorta looks like someone dragged a butter knife through the hot glass and the "striping" is kinda drawn out to fine points. I hope this helps - it's tough to put it in words.
Berryb
It's tough to put descriptions into words. My go to for Alleys is "venetian blind" not on all, but some, never saw it on anything else. Can't describe it any better, won't photograph ( I should try again). Thanks for the help Bruce
PittsburghMarbles
Yeah I’d go with alley, it’s a little toO busy to be a Ravenswood in my opinion. Still a very beautiful marble.
cheese
Good description Ric. Also in the top left you see a "fern" pattern, which normally indicates Alley.
