Two marble questions, unrelated to each other

Having been out of the marble game for almost 6 years, I`ve come back to good news and bad news, and a couple of puzzles:

#1  I was surprised to learn of the disappearance of Land of Marbles. When I vanished, it was a very active board, with lots of newbies. What happened?

And . . .

#2  A term whose meaning is self-evident, meaning "the marble that`s the subject of this thread," or "the marble in question." But I have yet to figure out what OP actually stands for. Enlighten me?

When I asked that same question just a short while ago, I was also told that OP can mean "original picture" as opposed to what other pictures might have been added to the thread.  😃
