Alley?

William

Recommended Posts

The book “L.E. Alley, Father of West Virginia Swirls “ says L. E. Smith copies are usually clear without a hint of tint color as opposed to Alley and generally Alley molds show more detail and the toes on the Alley sparrow have a sharp angle and the Smith bird has flatter toes.  Some Alley sparrows have a taller and steeper angled tail.  The wings are different and some Alleys bend their beak nearer the ground.  Hope this helps with ID.

Well--lucky me.

I just recieved a copy of the "Alley Agate Company" Marbles and pressed glass Hardcover book earlier this week.

It is a great book.

Based on what I have researched--yours is an Alley William.

Nice find.

Of course all opinions are welcomed.

Maybe @wvrons will chime in here--I hope so. He has a nice collection and was a major contributer to the book.

Alley On!!

Alley never made any this large. Most Alley animals or birds are crystal clear.  Some are opaque, and some are painted thin on the outside.  I have two which a Mary Hazelbaker gave me. She worked for Alley at Pennsboro . She brought them home from work. She lived about 200 yards from the factory.

I have also had the larger birds. It is not Alley.   It is worth about $3.00-$5.00 .
