Anyone else here into beads/African trade beads?

Here are pics of some of my collection. I love trade beads, chevron, bone and shell, furnace glass, millefiori, vaseline, Czech glass and more!

Neet stuff Malissa. If you haven't discovered yet, you may be pleased to learn that hand-made German Cane-cut marbles were made into 'Trade bead' neckless too. Rare to find them plus other sorts of antique Hand gathered Trade bead marbles which are not Czech can be found tied into neckleses. . I personally, do not have any, albeit when you know what to look for, you can see them  like, once in a blue moon at Ebay.  They are out there in marble and jewelry collectors' hands.

i've seen pictures of the german beads that do look a lot like marbles.  Interesting to learn they are actually marble cane!  Now I want them even more.  But they are spendy!

A lot of these beads come from Accra, Ghana, where I have seen them fired.

The two powder blue strands in my pics (one with flecks) are trade beads from Ghana. The chevrons are all Chinese and not true Venetian. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to afford true Venetian chevrons.

Boy, those fake Bulgarian hand gathered marbles really messed up things in 2014. Or rather, proved how simple it is to fake or copy antique glass making marbles and beads.

These sure look right, hand gathered, and holes poked through them while hot. Yet, the clear ones look like those Bulgarian copies.

For that scam, no longer can one be certain on anything that looks similar to those Bulgarian fakes.

Can't or would not claim this is where they came from, but this topic entertains how easy it is to do it:

Here's a PDF book with 130 pages that takes the history of glass works, jewelry, beads, marbles and Christmas ornaments up one more level. Just a few within the photos on page 85 are some hand gathered examples.

Published 2016: Interestingly Lauscha area is in denial regarding trade beads while the author found plenty evidence in an abandoned glass site on page 89- 91.

Not trade beads but these are phenolic resin beads which are highly sought after by collectors, especially the darker ones. I lucked out and found these about a month ago at a local store. I think they are German but I’m not positive. The photos make the beads look small but the largest on this strand are about 20-25 mm.
