Ric
I think #1 (Lazy Cork/Patch), #4 (Auger Corkscrew), #5 (Patch) are Akro, I don't see mica in #2. I agree #3 is Master (Brushed Patch). #6 is hard to tell without more views. #7 looks like a Ravenswood and #8 looks like a weak Alley Chalky to me.
marblemanvintagemarbles
I see the Mica in #2 it's definelyy a German Mica #4 looks like a snake type corkscrew I bet it glows under uv really bright. # 5 is a vitro and # 6 may be an akro or cac

It almost looks like glitter or chips but it’s perfectly smooth. I mean you can feel the uneven surface but it’s not a chipped surface if that makes sense.

I appreciate all the information and kindness from everyone. I have always just been drawn to the old marbles. I just grab jars when I go to estate sales or antique stores. I haven’t participated in online sales or purchased expensive individual ones. I love finding them in the ground most. I have never paid a lot of attention until recently. This group is just one of the best I have found. 1
marblemanvintagemarbles
That rough spot if where it came of the punty rod showing that it's handmade. I could see the Mica in the first picture you showed but it was pretty hard to decipher. Sometimes it's super hard to tell with a single picture but it looked it to me.

On this latest green one image #3 and #4 show where it was cut off . One end was as made, slightley rounded by hand and one was ground. It was more than likely gathered by hand out of a pot of glass and cut off by hand by a shears and barely rounded by hand—no machines involved here—man made. The Ground part was just sticking out too far to be at least semi round. A pretty cool find imho.

So I have a question the other one I have I really don’t think has mica. I can’t really tell but it appears to only have one pontil spot. Which I’m assuming would mean it’s the first from the rod? Does that make a difference?

They came out of a large furnace containing the same glass, were cutoff by a machine and rounded by a machine. The "Chalkey" that you show would have been picked out and disgarded by quality control--some were no doubt missed. It has been observed that this may have been a result of being buried over the years and a result of that--who really knows?\ All Marbles have two cutoff points. Some may look like pontils--but pontils are a handmade term only. Marble--On!!

Oh yeah, it's clear from these photos - nice mica. What is this horizontal feature I see in photo #3? I think I see it in photo #1 too. Can you feel it? Is it sort of a groove?

Like some of the marbles I have that have weird spots similar to this I can feel or catch with my finger nail. I don’t feel this one. To just look at it you can’t even see it.

I have 2 of the green German ones the one I shared pictures of and a second one that looks to be in rougher shape but I only see one spot on it. I can share pictures with you. Thank you for explaining that as well I literally feel kinda dumb about the marbles now. How I have been so infatuated with them for so long and I never really had the time to learn more about them. I’m a little embarrassed to be so clueless. This one has a much prettier green.

There are some hand-gathered marbles that only have one pontil - they are fully hand-made, no machine involved. Some people might call the single cut-off on a transitional marble a "pontil" too - I am not usually one of them. 😉

Is it possible there is damage obscuring the other pontil, which should be pretty much opposite the one you can see? It sort of looks that way to me.
