It's a CAC. .70 The CEO of "Old Rare Marbles" IDed it as such. 2 other high-end CAC sellers also did with one saying it's a tricolor CAC swirl.
akroorka
I appreciate that you have other ID's my marble collecting friend. We all have to get several Id's to be sure. I looked through my books on this one--just for this one. It is not a CAC and that means nothing because it is just a great Alley Agate. Of course, this is just my opinion and I just suck at wvs ID. Wolf
I don't know.... Yall will have to argue it out. I'm just the messenger 🤷 I know this though, ""CAC marbles are known to have a "9 and tail" pattern, but it is the earlier company, M.F. Christensen & Son Company (MFC), that is more strongly associated with this feature. The "9 and tail" appears on hand-gathered slag and opaque marbles from both companies, though some collectors note differences in the markings between them"

Block auctions refers to him as well as one of the Best.

Bob Block, Chuck Sumner, the amazing Ron Shepherd and others sometimes miss the mark. Keep an open mind when you get opinions regarding marble ID’s. 1 2

None of us are 135 years old and were at the active facilities looking at everything that was produced.
VaMarbles
I looked at the pictures of this marble before reading the context. I thought it was an Alley Agate and I would lean that way. 1
mtnhop
Ya, although theres a 9 pattern, I'm not seeing CAC or MFC in this on.
Carowill
I have a big CAC collection and I do think this marble could be Christensen. I think the "9" you are referring to is a 'turkey head'. That doesn't make it more valuable, however. Alley made some flames that are very hard to differentiate from CAC.

Parmcat
Doesn't look hand gathered to me. I think all the MFC 9 tails were hand gathered. I agree it's a killer marble, but looks like an Alley to me

Yes, one of the other CAC sellers said that it's a Turkey head connected to CACs, and that longer 9 tails are associated with MFCs. But then another one said it had characteristics of both. None mentioned Alley. You said you have a big CAC collection? Well you have the factory right in front of you. You're straight! 😃 1
Tommy
@Wolf Here are a couple examples of what is referred to as a 9 and tail..

akroorka
Cool find! I would sort it as an Alley Agate. A very nice one! Marble--On !!!
Royal3
My very late 2 cents - regardless of manufacturer it’s a unique and gorgeous piece of eye candy😍and I agree it is most likely an Alley, not CAC. Hang on to that one.
