Alan doesn't say a lot but when he does, I pay attention. And revisiting this marble with closer scrutiny, I think I see what he sees. The overall shape of the marble looks a tad lumpy for glass. I also see some surface aberrations that look a bit more like "cracking" in glaze rather than scratching in glass. I may have focused too much on that little rotary "nubbin" in the upper right photo, which is something I have never seen on a porcelain marble before. It's an interesting example. I recommend you calculate it's volume, weigh it, determine it's density, and report back. 😁 Of course, I'm kidding - see if you can find a little divot on it and look at with magnification. If it's porcelain, it should be fairly obvious.

I've heard of those! 😄

Again, I agree it's a Vacor and will be as interested as you to see what it's called. 🙂
-
I agree with Vacor but I don't keep up with their names - someone else should know though.
-
It sure looks like an Akro patch to me - a variant of the Unique/Hero type with an unusual color, IMO.

@marblemanvintagemarbles I recommend backlighting the second one, I'm thinking it's a bubbly translucent base - might even appear a little opalescent.

And I agree, thanks to Joe! -
I can't imagine much better photos - they're great, but I still have to use my imagination quite a bit to see a cut-off mark. 🙂 So based on your photos and your description of the cut-off I am going to guess it's a Japanese pinch "pontil" transitional. But it's a great example of a transitional slag marble, regardless of whatever else you might want to call it.

@Parmcat Just to clarify, Vitro Helmets are patches too - they're just a particular style of patch.

I thought Neptunes were blue, Joe. Can they be different colors? -
Fill me in here, Joe - I've never heard of a Gabor.
-
Some might say it's a helmet-style patch but Helmets are Vitros and they have a stripe. Here is a full team . . . Some are harder to find than others.

IMO, that looks like an amber Akro slag with a lot of "pocket-wear" and not much white. -
Master definitely made some like this but there are similar foreign ones too.

Wherever you want it to, there is no formal definition or cut-off point that I know of. I don't think it would even be possible to come up with one. All I would say is that if it is not one continuous "wire" it's not a wirepull. It is important to keep in mind that these are for the most part random swirls. You may be able to distinguish one company's from another's but there is still a tremendous amount of variation even within the swirls of a particular company. And often times, outliers from one company can look very much like another company's marbles. That is why there are a considerable number of WVSs that simply cannot be definitively identified, even though some people might state their opinion as fact.

Several companies made these slag-style swirls by the boxcar and they are tough to definitively ID. My first guess would be Champion but it wouldn't surprise me if another company made it. And the "pink" you see is most likely just from light playing off that purple. It is not a peach slag. My primary collection is original bags and the only way I can definitively ID many of these types is if they are in one. IMO, they are like a lot of other marbles - they can be really cool and they can look very nice in groups but unless there is something particularly striking about them they are only nominally collectible.

The first is a veneered Type III Tiger Eye and the second is a newer style All Red. They have both gone wild with bigger size.
-
Vitro is out and MK is a stretch too far, IMO. I think it is a particularly odd variation of a Sunset Rainbo.
-
That marble looks like it could easily be full of AV.
-
The first looks mostly JABO to me but may be foreign and the second is a Vacor of some type.

Master made a few different types I would refer to as game marbles (single color). Some were colored transparent glass and others were opaque. They also produced another type called "Cloudies" (my favorites) which are colored translucent marbles. Yours looks opaque and is Master or maybe Akro, but it's hard for me to ID it for sure, since I can't see the seam very well in your second pic. A straight on shot of that seam would likely resolve the issue.

@Meep I didn't mean to sound harsh. All that really matters is whether you like it or not. I would just encourage you to think about the difference between collecting marbles and accumulating them. Of course, whether you choose to do both, either or neither, is entirely up to you. 🙂
