Oh gosh. Didn't hear this one until just now. You know, it just kills me that part of the overall 'the world is going to heck' concept which I so generously share with my friends here, involves the fact that most people would be just as happy with a computer-generated version of this tune. They honestly can't hear the difference! It's so damned sad. And as a testosterone-dripping male, the very mention of 'pan flute' gives me shivers. But boy, this is just so great!

Whoa! This whole situation has gotten so interesting that I'm embarrassed to mention the question I have. Are these the Lifesavers that have been said to create some light or 'phosphorescence' when chewed? For what it's worth, I also want to mention that there have been several television shows in recent times which involve the lunatics (Sorry, Bud! You know I'm just goofing with you!) who choose to live in Arctic conditions. In my humble opinion, 'Life Below Zero' is the absolute best without question. Check it out if you're in the mood. I really like all the people involved, and other than my problems with cold conditions, feel like I'm on their wavelength. ( :

I've tried to make that program work on at least a couple of different occasions. It didn't happen. At this point, I think of it as very scary software. But of course that's only my personal connection with it, and I continue to have incredible admiration for our friends here who not only do great things with it, but seem to be entirely comfortable doing so! There's so much potential there. I too know a few things I'd like to do. But they'll probably never happen.

I'm glad that worked out well. Although at this point in my long career I also think it would have been the right thing to have done even if it wound up being uncomfortable and/or awkward. Personally, I likely would have avoided it. But I'd have also felt bad about it later. I've gotten to where I feel pretty sure that in most situations the old concept of regretting not doing something being worse than doing it, even if it turns out badly, is true more often than not. I'm glad Richard broke his streak of being 'good'. These are some great photos of really good-looking marbles! What's particularly impressive to me about the pictures is that they combine the best parts of a usable ID photo with the obvious signs of someone who has artistic 'vision' and essentially 'can't help' having this come through in his shots, even when he's not trying to be especially outrageous. This is a great combination, which is both useful and enjoyable to a large percentage of our friends here. As many people know, I like to do 'concept' shots a good part of the time, and this can be a good thing in itself, but then I often forget to add some decent ID photos. So I wind up letting down those people who want to get a good technical close-up 'look' at the marble(s). I apologize for this, and will continue to try to do better. In the meantime, here's one of my favorite old shots which is obviously lacking on the one side, but I like to think is pretty darned good on the other. ( :

North Dakota kicks butt in terms of United States wind power production. (Which of course is very cool.) So it's only natural that your little bitty light weight hummingbirds wind up getting blown into neighboring states before you get a chance to see them. ManofKent's link will be appreciated by those who liked the 'big moth' topic we had a long time ago. Although I don't think the moths we saw there were quite as quick.

Ha! I like the detail in your description. Not just a kaleidoscope, but a wooden handmade one. I can guarantee you that you're in the right marble group if you also have other fun and interesting things you like, like this. Very diverse group here. But the same in that they're all nuts in a good way. ( :

Okay, budwas. You're mixing me up now. I thought I just responded to this opening post elsewhere. But that's okay. Thanks for getting the shot of your marble. It's always neat to see marbles that have different 'looks' under different conditions. And what's the deal with this shot? Is this underwater? If so, is your camera lens underwater too? Whatever, the marbles look really great!

I think you need one of my Little Debbie 'Cosmic Brownies' with Betty Crocker cream cheese frosting! (That's from the 'What Are You Eating Now?' topic, if you don't know what I'm talking about.) Just kidding, and absolutely not laughing at this point. It would be good if you could try again to get whatever kind of picture you can. Or maybe Steph could post a shot of the marble she's talking about, and you could say if it looks similar.

I also wanted to say that this is a great-looking box and marble combination. It makes me smile, even though I know nothing about it. (Might be the early 60's look!) And of course the marbles could easily go into the 'Good Solids' topic as well. ( :

(There were American clays also but I doubt they made it to the time of your box.) Another reason that these couldn't possibly be from 'The States' is that we're way too 'full of ourselves' to ever let our marbles be put in a box where "colors" is so clearly misspelled! And of course we're also the only country in the world which isn't 'Foreign'!

Thanks to everyone for responding. It now definitely looks like the tv shot got bleached-out and lost a lot of detail. That's a particularly nice Challenger photo. I may have to save that for the next time I do one of the helpful gift-giving guide posts regarding Christmas or my birthday.

Some time ago I had a question about cars used in The Doris Day Show. It had to do with the car(s) used in the opening credits. Galen cleared up my confusion pretty quickly. Here's another similar situation, and it bothers me in the same way because my favorite cars are from this time period, and I like to think I usually recognize them immediately, but I guess there're some models that just don't ring a bell. Or I'm losing my mind, which is also possible. This car was also in the DD show, but it was just a passing part of the story line in one particular episode. Maybe I'd recognize it from a normal ground-level angle, but this view from Doris's upstairs window just isn't doing it for me. I'm also wondering about the 'contours' or 'structure' of the hood. It looks like it has some sort of 'one-sided' design to it, although the lighting here is such that there might be something on the other side we just can't see in this shot. Whatever it is, there's no doubt in my mind that it's what I consider to be a 'real car', as opposed to what's been produced in the following several decades. Geesh. It just hit me that if someone came out with a tee-shirt for old fogies that read "Set in my ways, and proud of it!", I'd really want one!

Pretty small font size for those two words! Going to need more light to see them. Let me get my lighter out. Those two words bothered me too. A lot. I honestly think that situation may have been the first time I had a suspicion that the world might wind up making no sense whatsoever.

Great marbles, as well as a particularly nice avatar variation from Steph! The 'Flinties' really do have kind of a special look. I'm not sure how to describe it. For some reason Ann's agates' 'availability' made me think of them as a potential 'gift' for the right person in the right circumstances. This got me wondering about several things. How many people here have 'significant others' who are equally involved with marbles? I don't know. It could be my overall nervous/paranoid disposition, but it seems to me like this could be a real 'problem' situation! It might be better for people like this to agree that they'll never buy marbles for each other unless it's a purely 'business' situation.

Hidden artifacts inside the Miller marble machine..

Even though I don't know what I'm talking about half the time when it comes to marbles, this is really interesting and fun stuff! Thanks for telling us about it! ( : -
This flower and photo are courtesy of my buddy Ed Form, who posts on my favorite camera discussion group. Ed has been at his current residence for the past five years. Apparently a half dozen tulips have been as well, but they decided to hibernate for all that time. All of a sudden this year - Surprise! I don't know anything about flowers, but this one is super-cool. ( :

I considered the possibility that "...the spirit, free of the lies,..." would be okay if there was maybe a verb after it somewhere where we weren't hearing it, but that didn't work out either. It does seem like something's missing.

No sooner do I finally get a ketchup and mustard after doing without for so many years, and you have to bring this to my attention. Thanks a lot! They're really neat!

I completely understand the concept, and most often it's okay. But it goes a little far at times. I was thinking tonight how musicians are frequently guilty of overdoing it. Robert Palmer was always one of the worst offenders when it came to making up words because he needed things to rhyme. "No pill's gonna cure my ill". God! Sometimes I want to hold him personally responsible for the situation these days where it seems to be completely acceptable to suddenly turn adjectives into nouns and vice-versa. Okay. Hold onto your hats. I'm going to tick off a lot of people. Elton John. He's great, right? I certainly think so. But he's one of the worst when it comes to his words making no sense. Let's take a particularly awful example. Candle in the wind! One of the most beautiful songs of all time! He went farther than playing around with individual words. He went so far as to play around with the meaning of words and hope no one would notice. "Your candle burned out long before... your legend ever did." What did he just say? He said, one, that her candle burned out. Okay. But then he said, two, that her legend burned out. Just quite a bit later. This is the exact opposite of the intended meaning of the song. But Elton doesn't care, as long as millions of fans blindly accept it! Am I being neurotic here? It seems to me that the concepts of being loose with language and the associated 'mass hypnosis' that comes from it could be seriously detrimental to future situations where we have to discuss how not to stupidly destroy our planet and all the life forms on it. Sorry to be so serious! But I think it's important sometimes!

Holy cow. That's too much!

Here's a quick non-technical technical observation which hadn't come up for me before, so I'll mention it for what it's worth. Steph's 'What's My Line?' video is a perfect size for my computer setup. Which is to say that it's as large as it can be without being overly so. When I first pasted the link to my TCM video, it automatically converted itself into a similar full-size 'hit the play button' sort of thing, but mine was noticeably bigger. Too big. But then I noticed there was a line somewhere that said something like 'post as regular link'. So I clicked that and everything worked out fine. The regular link brings up the standard youtube 'default view', which wound up being a better choice for that particular video. ( :
