  1. This is one of the greatest marbles I've ever seen. And the photos are just amazing. They show the complex detail all the way through, with a beautiful three-dimensional feel. ( :
  2. Spent a little while trying to think why I chose these marbles for the photo. My best speculation is the varying degree of UV reaction. The Vaseline marble is like the Fourth of July. The other Coke marble is middle of the road. Certain areas become more emphasized, and interestingly, part of that dark line that leads upward toward the first 'a' actually disappears. The smallest marble appears on the surface (figuratively/literally) to show no reaction at all, but since the white area isn't purplish, I'm assuming (uh-oh!) that at least a little something is going on. ( :
  3. I've seen some Aces that have totally kicked my butt. In a good way. They have a 'minimalist perfection' that really can't be described. Sort of feel the same way about Pelt Bananas.
  4. Sound like good choices to me! It was definitely Pelts that got me into this mess. I don't know much at all about Marble Kings. They don't seem to come up as topics that often. I don't know why. The few I've seen have a terrific look to them that's all their own. Here's the best Peltier photo I've ever taken, imho. No aggression intended. Pelts are probably my favorite. Just trying to be outrageous. ( :
  5. I'm on the machine-made side personally, and wondering which marbles intrigued you enough to 'dive in head first' recently. ( :
  6. Like the case a lot, even though I only have an inkling as to what it is. If the picture exists because it was for sale, I'm not sure I want to know how much it went for. Thinking in terms of my old pickup truck, I'm going to guess somewhere between 10 and 100 of them. ( :
  7. Looks like the technique works and it didn't go wrong at all! Thanks for filling in the details. Interesting that in English it ended with a perfect poetic rhyme. (feet/complete)
  8. "Addicted"? Geesh, Mike, it seems pretty clear from your photos that you could quit any time you wanted to! Thanks, Stefan, for the larger pictures. It's just one hell of a marble. It is too bad he's no longer making them, but glad you got one when you could! ( :
  9. It's much more interesting than those with perfect symmetry! ( :
  10. Hey Rich! I don't know marble shows from a hole in the ground. But it's good to see you're back here like usual. Also the large influx of posts this weekend require that significant posts from slightly earlier get a bump so they're not lost in the confusion. ( :
  11. Bottles leading to marbles? That's ridiculous! Still looking forward to someday actually finding something in actual earth and not on the 'bay'. I can only halfway imagine the thrill of that! ( :
  12. The Alice Francis was great. Really enjoyed the 'underground video' style along with the music. And the Pink Martini was wonderful. My knowledge of French only got me as far as the title. But it was enough to love the rest of it. For some reason this reminds me of a cartoon I once saw in a 'New Yorker' magazine. It showed a movie screen in a theater, with a couple in a passionate embrace. The caption to the cartoon, giving the audio, was in French, but I loosely translated it to something like "Your skin is like alabaster, Your lips are the petals of the rose, Your hair is as the autumn wheat, And your eyes are like opals speckled with gold." The English sub-title on the screen was "I think you're rather pretty!"
  13. Hey Stefan! I can see why you would want that marble. There's a lot going on in there! On my screen the photo was a little dark, so if you don't mind, I'm going to lighten it in case anyone else had this problem. My first marble was a Peltier 7up. I like 7up bottles and was searching for them when I saw someone who was selling a marble with the same name. The rest is history. Can you post a photo of your avatar? It looks like a very delicate and spectacular marble. Thanks. Bob [Robert Weber. Also German if you go back several generations.]
  14. A Burnt Liberty? Nah, I'm just being silly. But I think the rootbeer-like color and the amazing blue look spectacular together. ( :
  15. I don't remember the last time this marble came up in conversation. But as a favorite, I'm glad it did. Would like to respectfully request that VtAndrea post a full-size shot of her avatar if she has one. Always been crazy about that one. ( :
  16. I like the original idea of 'Blueberry Creamsicle'. (Banning any other established legal precedent.) 'Blueberry' is a good description of a color that falls between a 'Liberty' blue and 'plum'. There's enough purple in blueberries that if you actually saw one that was pure blue you probably wouldn't eat it. The creamsicle part goes without saying. ( :
  17. Just signed in, and looking at the overall listings was thinking "It's Pelt Night! Cool!" So here I am starting with the first, and it turns out to be my number one fantasy marble. These days I enjoy seeing other people's marbles, but don't have too much desire to accumulate more for myself. For the Blue Bee I'll make an exception. I want one! ( :
  18. Only just now checked out Chris Juedemann. He's completely insane. I like him!
  19. Since I was recently almost too late to fulfill the 'marble a day' concept, I'm going to do one real early. These are kind of fancy 'baseballs'. Might not be correct for me to think of them as such.
  20. I guess I got a little lazy with this shot. Didn't really put any 'moonness' into it. But I think the minimalist 'akrostripe' is great. ( :
  21. I really like the feline and rodent. Is that a rat? Looks pretty large, although I'm not sure just how small a kitten of this (?) age might be. ( :
