For those who do not know, I am from Standing Stone State Park, home of the national Rolley Hole Championship. I teach this game and lately most days someone comes seeking it out. I have taught many people how to play along with the local significance of the game, but what I have not done until recently is actually make a marble. During this process I gave many people a taste of the process but due to the time, many only got bits and pieces.

This particular marble is made from (according to the bag of raw material) Tennessee quartz. This is locally referred to as “flint” but I believe it is a type of churt. Due to how Rolley Hole is played, glass marbles won’t do and are easily broken due to their hardness. This material better survives the impact and generally rough gameplay by being a little softer and less brittle. 
 

We start with locally found materials that is then cut into blocks. From there we grind the edges and then grind the new edges until getting a cylinder roughly, then grind the tops to a taper. From there the rough orb is put into cups made of old grinding wheels and sharpening stones and spun with a rubber wheel. This can be dangerous a personally I ended up dotting my marble with blood from hitting my fingers on the wheel. 
 

Theres YouTube videos that better describe  the process, but it truly is a labor of love. Most of the marbles makers where or are Rolley Hole players which adds the personal touch. 
 

many of my files are failing to upload, but hopefully this gives an idea. The best way to see this process is by attending the 40th Rolley Hole September 16th.

Ever since I was 7, it was a fantasy of mine to get out to a shell-covered beach before anyone else did and have at it.   

I never told my mother how much I wanted that.  This was probably an error on my part.   At the time we lived in Corpus Christi. She could have made that happen.

All info is completely private only to you unless you share it in a poll, submit it as an example, or transfer it to another user or list it on EBay 🙂 and even in those cases only certain fields plus pics are shared.

Yeah, more views might be needed to get a focus on the handgathered structure we would want to see on a Japanese transitional, but that's what I think it will turn out to be.

Hello.  Welcome.  It would not be MFC.  MFC didn't make red slags.  The red marbles mentioned in MFC advertising were oxblood.  

I am leaning vintage myself.  I considered Vacor because of the bubble pops, but the swirl pattern says older to me.

At that size with those patterns, I think you have Jabo Classics.  Marbles made at Jabo-Vitro in Reno, Ohio between 1991 and 2007.  

Yes, Veiligglas from the Netherlands.   For most.  

The bottom left is not seeming to fit with the others in that photo.

Oh, and on the right, the second from top seems to have a different pattern.  

For a peewee, my first guess will be Vacor

Your marble would be a modern reproduction.  



The comic marbles from around 1930 were made with Peltier Peerless Patches.    Those marbles have a single patch.  

All the vintage marbles that I'm aware of are printed in black.  Your red image points to modern.  

Often you will see reproduction comics on Marble Kings that have two patches.   That's most common I think.  Does your marble have any patches?  Having no patch would also point to  modern.  Additionally, what size is yours?  If it's on a large marble, then pretty sure that means modern as well.   

And finally, the details of the image are a little different on yours from what you would see on the old ones.
