  1. Tiger Eye bag. Containing Whities. (right?) Pic posted some time ago by Al.

Apologies for my first Whities pic being sort of a nontraditional style. Had the pic out for another thread and figured I'd add it while I was thinking about it.

mental note: add more whities and blackies and other standards.

  2. Alox agates are also usually lumped in with WV swirls, though the Alox Mfg. Co. was located in Missouri. Their swirl machines are said to have been purchased from West Virginia.

There seem to be some mistakes.I know of no one who considers Alox a Missouri Company as a West Virginia Swirl.

    1) does what you quoted from me say that Alox swirls ARE WV swirls?

    2) Aloxes ARE almost always lumped in with WV swirls for purposes of ID. A newbie shows a pile of swirls and the typical ID is along the lines of, "Those are called WV swirls". Even if some Aloxes might be tumbling around in the group.

Steve, I know you have been concerned about that Alox entry for some time so let me reassure you. The intent of my wording is to acknowledge an erroneous ID which is generally allowed to slide and give a possible reason why it would be hard to ever correct the error -- machine origin.

We go with the numbers. And the numbers for this swirl type say, "most likely from WV" with an implicit p.s. of "and we probably couldn't tell for sure if it wasn't".

  3. Thanks for the names. I will get the list updated. I have a few other short lists to cross-reference. Won't be surprised if that turns up more names.

Plus, I have a couple of names I've been aware of for awhile but on the fence about. One person works with sorta weird glass, one with ceramics. I've included other orb-makers in non-glass media but it seems like they need to be nominated for membership in the club and aren't automatically recognized. you know? I don't know enough about contemps to know if they were excluded on purpose, and if others feel it would be wrong to have them in the same list.

    The two on my bench:

Laura Berretti of marbled clay fame.

And Jeffrey Grey, maker of "fiberagates"

hmmmm , , , decided to include JG but still mulling over LB. Having trouble getting an edit window at GA, so have time to mull.

  4. thanks, both of you. I still had to (oh the shame) go to the help faq's before i found out
I had to hold the pointer over the image to bring up those magic codes, LOL. I'm just
going to paste them right in without descriptors for now because I'm too anxious to get
them up to label them. Just know they all came from one auction lot won for less than 3
    figures.

    AAARRGGHHHHH......it's NOT working!!!

I've quoted your post in "code" mode so we can see what happened with the IMG tags. Notice that there are two of the [/ IMG] tags on the end.

Let's get rid of one of them and using

    we get:

  5. Here's a famous color combo / style, the Blue Lace.

Here is a seamed version from a Marblealan auction. Would this also be called a "Striped Transparent"? Seems like it would but I am very hesitant to jump to conclusions about CAC's. :-)

There is also a swirl version with the same colors of glass. I'll add a pic when I come across a suitable one. I'm not sure but I think that might have been a "mistake" to call the swirl a Blue Lace, but at the same time I think the terminology has caught on pretty firmly. Sorry, that's a fuzzy recollection of something I didn't quite understand as I read it the first time. So I'll have to fix this post when I learn the answer. If someone would care to add the correct story, that would be great!

  6. Auction pix:

same seller, looks like some of the same marbles. This might have been the seller who had lots of boxes with varying amounts of damage and maybe marbles spilling out. If some didn't sell first go, maybe they got rearranged. (no I'm not trying to out the seller! I think the mibs and boxes are authentic, even the clays! But I think some mix and match may possibly have occurred is all.)
