I am sure I MUST have more oddly shaped marbles but this is one I found today. Not sure why but I had it in my solid-colored small (pee wee) marble bag. What are they called again?

HAHAHAHAHA!!!

I think I would have to say clear base. I remember a ways back asking some "marble dude" about my marbles. He said I had some good ones, but most were ordinary. Now I get that... when you look on ebay most marbles at a buck or two max... costs more to ship, right? Some day... I PROMISE... I will allow my collection to go to a home I know will appreciate them. I have no kids to leave them to... no nieces or nephews who even know what a marble is but for to hold up maybe flowers in a vase (right?)... I won't need the thousands of dollars my collection will garner (SARCASM)... I will just want them to be held and loved as I am now doing.... I truly appreciate the help and interest I have found here.

^^^ Thanks. When my brain is not so tired... I need to think that thru and analyze...

I need to go "pick" thru mine to see if I have any snotty boogers.

^^^ LOL... not surprised. In terms of the quality of the black, very similar to those other black and orange ones. If you didn't look at these very long, you'd miss the subtle swirl and toss it in the "solids" pile.

These are similar to those black and orange jobbies of mine... but the markings on these are so so faint you can barely see them. I have OVER exposed this just so you can see them. And I don't think there is any aventurine in any of the 3. Any ideas?

My grandfather, far left, as a young adult. Pretty sure he had outgrown marbles at this point. http://www.carolinefentonphotography.com/Albums/FENTON-MARBLES/i-8PnS4mw An interesting view of St. Marys baseball field. http://www.carolinefentonphotography.com/Albums/FENTON-MARBLES/i-55rbL7r

As I have mentioned, all my marbles (except two "artsy" ones I haven't even posted here) were inherited from my grandparents' estate in St. Marys, West Virginia. MY father was born in 1917. He eventually graduated from college and left St Marys to serve in the Army in WWII. He never lived in St Marys again, but visited as an adult and we took family vacations there once I came about. Here is my grandfather as a young man. Maybe he has a few marbles in his pocket there...

When I originally sorted out my inherited collection, I put this pretty (yes, I said it... "pretty") cat in with another marble with similar colors. Took a closer look at it today...

Steph that is just one marble... different views. I should've clarified that.

I don't have many of these... but this one may be my favorite. It is also interesting that this small sub-collection are the most beat-up. They must've been fun to play with...

I am increasingly fascinated by my marbles. Especially all the size differences. Some are obviously large. Some obviously small. But sometimes there are super subtle differences... I am finding you just have to spread them out... touch them, hold them, hold them up to a window, etc... to really discover all the nuances.
