Faceting has multiple "flat spots" like the faceting on a gem stone thus the term "faceted". I agree, faceting can be very hard to see sometimes : light faceting, wear, damage etc...
My "Sunday Best" Alley metalic, has wider ribbons of an iron color and thinner ones of a copper color throughout the marble. This ones a little bigger @ 13/16ths. One shot outside in natural sunlight an the next inside under artificial.

One end looks like a melted pigtail and the other looks unfinished, probably late Victorian, i.e. 1870-1910 ?? Faceting on one end would indicate an earlier manufacture date i.e. 1850-1870
