This all makes sense to me. One of the hardest to find white based corkscrews is the yellow and white. How many runs were really made we will never know but I can say this much, they are very hard to match. We have all seen the videos of the workers throwing shovel-fulls of cullet into the furnace. Not a real specific science to it all--a shovel here and a shovel there, next load up and a few shovels full more, then bring in the next color and see what happens at the quality control end of it all. With the lighting available at the factory hybrids were sure to form. End of runs maybe had more pieces of furnace brick in them because of the deterioration of the furnace itself. Marble--On!!

It sure did, and he or she sure did as well. It measures in at 7/8" now, it probably started new at an inch--lol. Marble--On!!

We can all agree on one thing, it is not a wirepull. Just too many ends of the stream. It is great to see such passion on a marble such as this. Keep up the good work and keep the ID's coming. We can all agree to disagree at one point or another. We should all call them as we see them regardless of the outcome. I love this stuff. Marble--On!!!

Thanks Ric, Show me what a Vitro "Opal" looks like. In my world "opal" is a general term describing opalescence. I suppose because it is just easier to type. I am always willing to learn and adjust. Names and descriptions can get a bit confusing. Marble--On!! and Opalescence on for sure!!!

Opalescent glass cullet was used in a wide variety of marbles and used by many makers. I do not doubt that what leatSOUND has may be opal. It is a hard thing to represent with an image in many cases. A light box is the way to go to ID opal for sure. Turn it in all directions and convince yourself. Opal is a hard thing to show in two dimensions in a lot of cases. Marble—On!!!

This is one that I proudly display. I really love old marbles that show play. This one no doubt was a favorite of someone’s in the antique past. Beat up but rarely defeated is what I call this one. Mint is great for sure but history rules. There are no bad marbles. Marble—On!!! and collect what you want to as well !!!

Chinese in my opinion. It seems to be out of round. Research larger asian made mables---link is below--- https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Customized-Hand-Made-Hard-Small-Hand_62226173220.html?spm=a2700.galleryofferlist.normal_offer.d_title.49be109e4ecKsl Marble--On!!!

Help! A blue swirly and a clear crystalized.
akroorka replied to Chris Parson's topic in Marble I.D.'s
OK, back to the OP. I agree that the left hand marble is fried. I have seen some natural stone agates that look close--but not close enough. It may be a torch made that wants to resemble a fried--pretty big for a fried marble for sure---way too big. Nice marble regardless. The blue marble is a modern torch made marble--I have little doubt. It is just too big to be anything else. I think that the bubbles in the glass are a give-away on this one. No MFC here--Period--IMHO of course. Marble--On!! -
What book are we talking about and is it still out there for purchase? Marble--On!!!

Vacor has made some great marbles; The Company is thriving doing what they do. They recognize a popular color combo and make it happen in a big way. I will not blame them in the least for making "Serpents". More than a few collectors have been bit purchasing what they thought might be a "Superman", including myself. Many individual contemporary makers have done an even better job at making "Superman" marbles and they will be here to stay for a long while. I cannot even blame most sellers because they are often fooled themselves, posting real "Superman" marbles with Serpents. As always collectors--when in doubt leave it alone or live and learn. I love this stuff. Vacor--On!!! And Marble--On as well!!

Thanks for all of the images Pittsburgh. I would hate to arm wrestle you--lol. Nothing like getting back to nature and enjoying the ground below as well. I 'll bet that it is a very peaceful venture that you enjoy. Dig--On!!! and back to nature--on as well!!!

It is worth repeating--Just an awesome looking orb for sure--the colors rival any Sparkler that I have seen for sure. Vitro made some amazing---really amazing marbles. Thanks again for showing this one. Marble--On!!

Great Marbles--I would love to see more of that mostly yellow Serpent. It is just a great looking marble no matter were it came from. If you have more--show them all--I would love to see them. Marble--On!!! Marble--On!!!

I dug through my Akro patches today and decided to post these for those that like I, may have thought or hoped that the OP may have been Akro marbles. As always, I am open to the opinions of the marbles that I post and the ideas that anyone may have on these marbles. I am never too old to learn nor are the masses of marble collectors, new or old that are out there that may read this post in the future years ahead. These are Akro RWB patches IMHO. Close to the OP-- but no Cigar. Marble---On!!!

Wednesday is named for the god Woden, who is paralleled with the Roman god Mercury, probably because both gods shared attributes of eloquence, the ability to travel, and the guardianship of the dead. This marble has done it all. I got it out of a very wild lot. It is out of round and obviously used by the gamer that loved it as much as I do. Due to the bubbles in the glass it may look worse than it is—so be it. I spent a few weeks of time trying to ID it and I finally found it in a salesman’s sample box —thanks for that by the way—!! The pink is better than I can show—Pink and green what a wonder. You never know what it may be until you do the research----I love this stuff! Marble—On!!!

Joshtep, This is my suggestion. I do not know if these are dear to you, if you are settling an estate, or you are looking for values to sell them. Chances are if you keep them you will be addicted in short order. It will be much harder to settle an estate and much harder to sell them. The number one thing is to keep them all in prime shape. Carefully lay them all out and take a few shots of them with high resolution along with some coins or rulers mixed in with them, crop the shot and give us a better idea of what you may have. I am sure that you picked out the ones that were attractive to you and that is OK—let us see them all. The folks here can give you a better idea of what you have in that case and you can take it from there. Marble—On!!! and Good luck in any case. (exclamation marks are OK—question marks are better)

Possible Peltier Rainbos and two other mystery marbles
akroorka replied to InkspotAntiques's topic in Marble I.D.'s
The first two look like pelts to me, although number 2 is a rare killer if it is. Number three looks more like a Master Marble to me--not Master Glass. The last one is not what it was intended to look like no matter who made it and it could be one of many. It reminds me of something that I cannot recall at this point. The glass does look like it has some orange peeling---hmmmm? Marble--On!!! -
Thanks Pittsburgh, I think that they are a match for the ones in my OG post. Anymore that you could add will be appreciated for sure. Marble--On!!

I have not been sitting on my hands regarding this post. I have spent a lot of time doing research on various fronts with little to add. I would like to give a shout out to “Stephs Study Hall” I was distracted so many times by the info in these posts that all of you have contributed to. Once again—Great job Steph!!! I broke out my “like kind” boxes without the added ink for any help that it may add. I know this type of box could have been backfilled—I have unfilled flats myself after all. One or two may hold some credence however. First box—obviously game marbles—10 of each and 1/2” to 9/16 ”. Could the “Victory’s” be game marbles??? Lots of “Victory Games” or WW2 games are out there that use marbles. No reason to think that this box was backfilled by anyone. Second box—well, an obvious mix of makers. Previously opened and contaminated IMHO Third box – it’s a “fresh box” --Hmmmm, pretty clearly the same as “Victory Box” without the ink. Fourth box— it’s a “fresh box” ----green and white—sure look like MK to me. Fifth box— it’s a “fresh box” ---well I can’t call what it holds for sure. Pre-jabo’s maybe—maybe—“classics”.

Orange-peal can be seen in a lot of marble makes. I do not see Vacor here. It may be Veiligglas but there is just not enough of them around my neck of the woods to call it. I would never rule out a WVS in these cases. Some awful amazing examples have come out of the digs. More opinions are needed on this most excellent example of a marble for sure. Dutch Marbles—On!!!

Cullet is King. How many ID’s have been accomplished over the years using cullet such as this from various digs around the countryside of various states and countries? Hats off to all of you diggers out there that have made this stuff available to the masses. Keep on keepin-on-on for sure. Diggers—Rule—On!!! -

Here is the real deal when it comes to bricks—several different types for your viewing pleasure. I just love these things—messed up, worn out, dinged or pretty nice as these are. Brick—On!!! -

akroorka replied to akroorka's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
These Akro’s have been called “Bricks” for a long time and are considered by many to be “dug only”—I of course disagree and have seen enough boxes of “Cornelians” to stand by it. No oxblood here—but very attractive and one of my faves to step up for. They resemble both bricks and slags and have a very cool depth to them that matches neither. Not transparent and not opaque—just different. Cornelian—On!!
