  1. Wow, Conquerors have a huge range!
  2. Yes that's why I was happy to get them as examples to study, cuz yeah, I do agree that some of their Oxblood does seem to take a little dive!
  3. Yes, Ron, I understand completely. I bought these very Milky Oxblood at a half-price clearance sale cuz they weren't selling, if you recall, thank you very much, and some came by mail shortly after! For me they were ideal because they gave me a perfect example of Akro Oxblood which I wanted to learn and study. If I had seen those for two bucks, I would have bought them too. Me, I like them!
  4. I was having some trouble uploading my photos I wanted to do a close up and a wide shot but they kept disappearing and reappearing. Sorry for the confusion but yes I interpreted that I had Milky Oxs as well and just wanted another verification, Thank you! Coolness!
  5. Agree, Ox, and 2 Alleys. Milky Oxblood is a new one! Cool. I made a quick shot of four of mine. Would this be Milky Oxblood?
  6. That's a real nice marble but it certainly isn't a Popeye. It's got the wrong structure for a Popeye and absolutely has to have the white filaments. That looks more like some unusual multicolored Akro Snake. It has all the shape of a Snake but since Snakes are new to me, I only know them in solid colors or a simple two color. This one's wonderful.
  7. Standard game marble with an elaborate, convoluted story to sell something that isn't worth anything
  8. Gosh, I'd love to get this marble in hand. It's still just not feeling like the very surface thin Oxblood and the color doesn't seem quite right to the last photo. Hmmm.
  9. And when the process got to machine made, there were dozens of companies making millions in a day! year after year !! Where have they all gone????
  10. Great thread full of fascinating and rich with information. I believe I've been able to identify my Moss Agate as properly identified. Far as the cost of these to the consumer...remember the times very tough in the 1930s. For me, the only marbles ever bought by my parents were a bag of 50 All Reds, in the early 1960s. Money was super tight even then and new marbles were considered a luxury. Those are the only new marbles we ever saw and we didn't even like them! Obviously they're all in wet mint condition today, still not worth anything, except the boulders that we used with the WristRocket to fire down the new asphalt street.
  11. Not Turkey Head. Here's one I recently acquired that was claimed to to be a Turkey Head. I thought it looked like an elephant, so I acquired it. We have to be careful not to stretch the definition. weakens it. I'm going to take the liberty of posting an official Turkey Head photo which was provided by wvrons in response to my inquiry about my elephant head.
  12. Not seeing oxblood. That color is definitely not just sitting on the surface but in the marble itself, among other things. Nice UV glow!
  13. Jackson's? New to me!! Whoohoo!
  14. Yes, I have heard that, as well. I also I just learned that in small batch glass a potato has been used to remove the bubbles from the glass. Other secret methods are using chemicals to remove the bubbles. Seedy glass indicates a cheaper glass that is not prepared as thoroughly. Thing is, I really like the bubbles in the glass!!!
  15. Well, that would indicate to me a handmade marble where they put a bubble in the middle of the marble intentionally. Machine-rounded process would notallow a large bubble like that to stay in the middle so perfectly. it's hard to tell from the single photo but that would be my guess.
  16. The marble machine's only make the glass glob round. The clear/seedy (bubbles) of the glass occurs in the furnace and how the glass is prepared.
  17. Thanks. Still thinking not Oxblood.
  18. Found the images.....these are super examples of oxblood and well photographed.
  19. Flemish? Interesting...first time I have heard this term. How did the Dutch get in on this? 😀
