This guy's funny, I looked very closely all over the marble, but I couldn't see any pontil at all. Was the pinch/crease line smoothed out in the marble making process?
Thank you so much for posting this! π I live only a couple hours away from Anacortes. There's probably tons of these marbles in western Washington. I was also always curious about how to differentiate these guys from other vitro/JABO products.
Thank you! π
It is really interesting to see the variety that Japanese transitionals come in. Both Dave's and mine seem to have a lot more white than usual. It's almost like the white is the base glass and not the swirls.
If I find a pinch pontil marble, I kind of assume it's Japanese since I've heard CAC handgathered transitionals were only produced for a very short period. In contrast, I heard Aiko say Yasuda produced pinch pontil marbles from 1933 to 1939.
Sure!
Unfortunately, I'm not that knowledgeable about CAC transitionals. I have seen CAC's with the characteristic diaper fold seam, but never any of the earlier handgathered marbles.
My brother (also a marble collector) has had this marble for several years. We've gotten several different opinions about it, but have never been fully sure of what it is.
