  1. Thanks Fire! These are translucent and the patches almost resemble those ribbons of a Vitro Tiger Eye. I am going to bet these are Vitro and call them two color patches Right?
  2. Almost looks to be an opal doesn't it? However I am stumped as well. Nice.
  3. Opaque white base, two conjoined patches and obvious seams but I can't place them with a manufacturer. I have others in color combinations, I think, yellow and blue, maybe some more combos someplace. They all seem to have that same construction and look to them. I'd appreciate the usual help with mfg. ID and name. My guess is gonna be Akro Agate two colored patch. But I am not finding these. Thanks again for your time and thoughts on these triplets.
  4. Now this one is different than my recent Master question. I am thinking this one is Akro Agate and it definately has that old glass feel and look. Superb condition. It is all opaque, patch and base. Maker, Type and any special name for it maybe? I see people call some similar to these Akro Watermelons but there are some pretty imaginative auction sellers out there. Thanks marble people.
  5. This also has eyelashes. If I am correct with Master, does this type have a name to it or type at least? Thank you kindly.
  6. I'm glad I attempted to keep things in order as I collected. If I didn't I would be lost at this point and probably would not enjoy them near as much. Everybody does things a little different so do what you like and you'll like it.
  7. I see 6 colors on this cool marble Red Yellow Green and another Army Man Green, Turquoise and Brown
  8. Beautiful Marbles MarcoArellano. Quite the display so far. Really enjoying this.
  9. I tried taking decent pictures of this framed print. I have had it for decades but I forget if it is my old handwriting on the back or someone elses. Says steel engraved, hand colored. 1849. Tonight I remembered it hangs there on the wall by the grandfather clock. I think of it every year on New Years (almost) and decided to see if I could find out more about it tonight. THE DEATH OF THE YEAR Engraved expressly for Graham’s Magazine by W. E. Tucker Vol. XXXV. December, 1849. No. 6. THE DEATH OF THE YEAR POEM BY HENRY B. HIRST It was a dreary night   In the latter years of time, When a man, with shrunken limbs   And a forehead white with rime— With the rime of weary hours Whose paths were not of flowers— And a beard of snowy white, Walked slowly through the night. Pale Hecate, overhead,   Shone coldly on his brow; His eye was sunken and dim,   His cheek had lost its glow, But his step, so full of pride,— The manhood of his stride, Gave this antiquated thing The appearance of a king. The moon went sadly down   To a level with his way, And the heavens became opprest   With vapors dark and gray As Saturn, with his beard, And glass, and scythe, appeared: The old man journeyed on, Growing weaker and more wan. Like a shadow, on his path   With a silence, such as dwells In the desolate dell of death   Where we hear not even our knells, Did Saturn slowly pass With his fatal scythe and glass: The traveler looked not back, But kept steadily on his track. From the earth which lay below,   Until then so black and dumb, Came the roar of many a gun,   With the roll of many a drum, And the mingling strains of lute, Clarion, cymbal, fife and flute; And among them, like a knell, Rose the clamor of a bell! The wanderer heard the sound,   And with patient, suffering eyes Gazed reproachfully on high,   Through the dark, unpitying skies; But Saturn raised his steel And the old man ceased to feel; And they laid along his bier The cadaverous Old Year.
  10. Good fortune to all of you! ~ Happy New Year ~
  11. I was excited to see this one pop up today! One for the hoi polloi. Thank you from all of us at Marbleconnection. I'm a huge fan myself.
  12. Those are beautiful. I made my second attempt today. I think my clay is too hard when I am working with it. I need to improve my workspace too. I hope that as I get more experience I can make some that look like yours. It is a lot of work and time right now but I bet I'll do better as I keep trying.
  13. I am sorry MarcoArellano, I think I jumped into a thread where you had planned on entertaining us with your marbles. I guess I thought we were supposed to come up with some contributions. I sure don't want to mess up your intentions with my injections. Fun thread though, I shall get in the bleachers and watch. Trophy given!
  14. Closest I can conjure up is this one . Go ahead, try and find marbles that are nicknamed Hens. I triple dog dare ya! Translation "Hey rooster, stay away from my eggs!" Three French Hens warding off three Vacor Roosters.
  15. I wonder if as soon as it was made it was connected to another marble and they twisted apart as they started the roller process?
  16. Today I made my very first clay marbles, as I got to number 14 I was getting the hang of it. My first one was a bit of a dud. The lower left bottom one, yellow and black. I have some optimism with this new undertaking. I will come back here and post what I make. Anyone else is certainly welcome too. Please do post yours as well if you make them. I did learn that black clay is not my friend in some instances. Next batch will be better. LOL
  17. Outrageous !!! You have some dandy marbles Wolf. I often admire your posts from the sidelines.
  18. Marble King Rainbows It's Christmas Eve for just a little while longer. I am still a kid at heart and can't wait to see what is under the tree in the morning. Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.
  19. Is this 1 inch Mexican marble a Picasso without the yellow or is it a Red Panda with an extra Blue stripe? I would like to inventory and put it in a designated place. Thank you!
  20. A recent auction win of two trays, one is almost all if not all Jabo classics 5/8th marbles on the right. The other is a mix of Vitros and West Virginia Swirls with a smattering of Peltiers, Marble King and Akros on the left.
  21. I am all set up to make some myself. I have read that just using your fingertip in small circles will produce a rounder marble. I think letting them sit for awhile and then making them round again might help before baking. They get flat spots if the clay is too soft I have heard. Let them rest a bit after forming. There is also a simple machine or tool if you like that makes same size and perfectly round marbles. I was going to get one just a few nights ago online. But I am going to do more research about which ones are best. Here's a link to what I was looking at. I am NOT endorsing this product. I saw a woman made a roller out of an Elmer's glue bottle so where there's a will, there's a way.
