Back To The Mibs! Opinions Needed Please
joestreet replied to BuckEye 's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Craig, I have it on good authority that these are Vitro Tri-Lites. They sometimes go by the name of Clear Aquamarines. Hope that helps, Joe. -
Thanks to everyone for your comments, they are very much appreciated. Marbledave, it seemed like a pretty active show to me but I'm not for sure on how marbles were selling. I purchased some marbles, not as many as I would have liked to but I managed a few On another note, I have had several people ask me to e-mail them higher resolution pictures so that they could see the marbles better, if you see something that you want a larger shot of e-mail me and I'll send it to you. Thanks again, Joe

Hello everyone, Here are some pictures and commentary on the Crossroads of America Marble Show. As usual Beth Morris and company put on a wonderful show, there were plenty of vendors and collectors on hand as well. All in all a fantastic time. I did take a few more pictures than usual, I tried to get more pictures of the marbles than I usually do but it does make for a rather long read. Some things in Indiana: 1. Misty mornings. 2. Big bean fields. 3. Lucas Oil Stadium, home of the Colts. 4. And the Great Crossroads of America Marble Show! 5. George Sourlis and Nancy Frier. Nancy’s Grandfather was John Frier, founder of the Alox Manufacturing Company. George brought Nancy a tape he made of an interview with her father back in the late 90’s. 6. Some of George’s marbles. 7. A close up. 8. George after he had been fleeced by a couple of marble moochers. 9. Ric and Jake; Jake is budding young marble collector that has great taste in music (he’s a Floyd fan). 10. Here’s George and WVRON. Note the look of surprise on Ron’s face, I snuck up on them and shot this one. 11. The Splattman, Steve is a good guy who has contributed to my Kokomo collection on more than one occasion. 12. Chuck B. and Rhonda hanging out. 13. Diane B. fixing up some kids with marbles, thank you Diane. 14. Chuck talking to a fellow name Dirk. Dirk had some Kokomo’s that were his fathers; apparently his father was quite a marble player in his youth and had won a lot of marbles. The next two photo’s are of the Kokomo’s that he brought. 15. Kokomo’s 16. And some more Kokomo’s. 17. Some of Chuck & Diane’s marbles. 18. A few more. 19. Check out the two on the bottom. 20. Some Killer Vitro’s. 21. Some Akro box’s. 22. And some bags. When these folks come to a show they always have a lot of really nice marbles. I could literally spend a whole show looking at their stuff and probably not see it all. The pictures here are only a small sample. 23. I met this gentleman for the first time, his name is Jim Devitt. 24. Here are a few of his marbles and his contact info, Jedevitt at webtv.net 517-223-4470 or 702-239-1282. 25. Here we have Mike A. he fixed me up with a really cool red base Master. Thanks Mike!!! Mike is the VP of the Indiana Marble Club who also happens to have some very nice marbles. 26. Here is a nice hand made that Mike brought to the show. 27. Some more of Mike’s mibs. 28. And a few more. 29. Here is another fellow that I got to meet. We have spoke but I’d never met him in person. Bill, aka romanoak on the boards is a really nice fellow and he brought some killer handmades to the show. romanoak at aol.com or 859-983-6457. 30. Bill’s handmades. 31. Some more… 32. Wow! 33. Bill Bass, Bill always has a nice display of marbles. ibmarbls at pcii.net or 608-723-6138. 34. Some nice CAC’ and Akro’s… 35. Some cool Pelts. 36. I’ve seen (drooled over) this box before. I really like Parrots. 37. Art Jones, super nice fellow. Art hooked my kids up with a couple of Peltier tracers that are nicer than any I have in my collection. 38. Some of Arts marbles. 39. Mike Coyle. 40. Some of Brian Grahams, oxblood creations. 41. Ron Yutzy, seen here talking with Nancy. ronyutzy at mail.com or 574-536-7404. 42. Some of Ron’s personal marbles 43. John Duck, John gave my kids some marble bags that that got filled pretty quickly. He had a pretty large selection of marbles. duckmarbles at gmail.com or 740-984-4667 or 740-350-0893. 44. Some of the bubble packs that John brought. 45. Dan Grocki, Dan always brings a huge selection of marbles to the shows and I’ve seen him at almost every show that I’ve been to. Here are a couple of contact numbers for Dan, 574-255-2926 or 574-302-5390. 46. A few of Dan’s marbles. 47. A few more. 48. And one more shot. 49. Two great fellows, Bud Shute and Lonnie Conyers, they are a couple of “Marble Nuts” that always have a large selection of marbles. You can contact Lonnie at 765-747-9544 or lwcmarbles at aol.com I believe Bud’s e-mail is shutejbmarbles at people.com 50. Two kids and a dog. (needed a pic to fill out the group 51. Here is Beth Morris, a really sweet lady who is responsible for getting everyone together and putting on this great show. Thank you Beth, your hard work is very much appreciated. 52. Greg Morris, Beth’s husband. Super nice fellow who also plays an important roll in getting the show together. Thanks Greg. If you made it to the end thank you. You can find some more marble show pictorials HERE. Thanks again, Joe.

How Many W V Swirl Companies Were There?
joestreet replied to MrsMopar's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
"But now that i went there and found my mystery mib that i figured out was Jackson, i seen it said Jackson Furnace Marble ?" "Any info on this ?" Kevin, The "Jackson Furnace Marble Moniker" is nothing more than good ole American marketing. I'm not for sure who labeled that particular marble with that name but I asked the person that I purchased it from where the name came from and he commented that it was named that because it resembled the Champion marbles of the same name. Interestingly they appear to be plagued with the same annealing fractures that are common with the Champion Furnace Marbles. I picked through quite a few to get some that are relatively clean. They are very nice marbles; I think they are one of the nicer Jacksons although I like the red, white and blue swirls also. Not sure if this was the type of info you were looking for but hope it helps. Thank you, Joe. -

Hello everyone, I was invited to the Tribute marble run and I made a video of it. Below is a link and some comments about it that I had posted elsewhere. Regarding the video, my intent is to leave it up for a short period, after that the WVMCC and the Texas Marble Collectors club will have them available for people who might want a copy and a chance to support some good marble clubs (proceeds from any sales will be kept by the Clubs). When Steve invited me out to see how they made marbles at Jabo and to film it I didn't really think that this would be much of a project. While I had never done anything like this before I figured hey "how hard can it be?" I figured I'd go out shoot some video with my camcorder and put it up on YouTube and voila! Easy marble video right? Well when I got home I had about 4-1/2 hours of video, it was about this time that I discovered that YouTube will only let you upload a ten minute video so… I got a video editing program which I had no clue how to use but again, hey "how hard can it be?" Well once I finally figured out how to get the video onto my computer and into the editing program I had to figure out which 10 minutes of video I wanted to use. I never did figure this part out, the best that I could do was 26 minutes I also realized that I had a problem, the machinery at Jabo is so loud that there really wasn't any usable sound, just the roaring sound of the glass tank and the machinery. So I thought I'd do a David Attenborough type narrative, only problem was I couldn't afford Mr. Attenborough so I had to work with this monotone turkey who would work for free. But before the MT (monotone turkey) could start recording I had to write the narrative, I'd never done anything like this before but (you guessed it) hey "how hard could it be?" Well once again I miscalculated, it took much longer than what I thought, at some point in the process I realized that not only did the commentary need to make sense but it also had to be in sync with the video. I had to do some more editing at this point and the MT was of no help at all, I tried to get him to speed up or slow down his narrative to help sync with the video but he just didn't have the talent, next time I'll use a union guy! After I got to this point I decided that the video needed a little livening up so I figured I'd add some music to it. Ever the optimist I figured hey "how hard could it be?" Did you know that you can't just go rip a song off of your favorite Abba or Bee Gees album and use it for your video? Well I'm here to tell you, you can't. So I had to learn about Royalty Free Music. The first thing I learned is that it really isn't free, you are asked to make a donation which isn't a problem but how much of a donation should you make? I mean you don't want to insult anyone by making too small of a donation but if you give too much you might as well go a little bit more and get the kick butt Abba or Bee Gees stuff right? Well I think I gave too much because the fellow who did the music sent me flowers and a box of chocolates and told me if I ever did another video he would love to write a special score for it. Anyway, sorry for the ramble, thanks to all who check out the video, I hope that if you've ever wondered how a marble is made the video gives you an idea of the process and if you ever decide to make a marble video this ramble gives you encouragement Thank you, Joe Street. Hello everyone, I have been working on a website project for awhile and I've finally got it to a point where I feel comfortable sharing it with everyone. Please note that I didn't say that I had finished it. It is a work in progress and there will be lots of changes made in the future on it, some of which I'm sure will be prompted by the people visiting it. The site is mainly intended as an Id site, I hope that you will find it useful, any feedback that you would like to send is welcome. If it is feed back regarding changes or you would like to tell me how much you really don't like the site please e-mail me through the site, however If you really like it and want to tell me that it's cool by all means post it publicly :-) Also I would like to thank the owners of these forums for allowing me to make this post; it is super that they provide a place such as this where I can go to learn about this great hobby. Last but not least thank you all; I have learned a great deal of what I know from the folks on these forums and the education that I get from you all is very much appreciated. When I started trying to identify my first marbles I never would have guessed what a great hobby it would turn into for me and my family. Thank you again, Joe Street http://www.joemarbles.com/
