Political Correctness And Marble Ids
wvrons replied to kbobam's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
A person asking for identification help from me can say anything they like correct or not. Because whatever or anything they say about the marbles past wil have no influence on any identification i give. The marbles will tell their own story. If they do not then my answer is i am not sure or i do not know. I don't care at all or is no help to me at all if the past owner was 25 or 85 years old. It makes no difference to me,if the marbles were kept or found in the attic barn basement coffee can or grandmas underware drawer. I have seen to many newer marbles in with vintage marbles that have never been touched since the 1940 or 50's. Most everything they had was Peltier or most everything in the group was Peltier. So how did that one Jabo or Vacor get in there ? But they do and the majority of the time. Like has been said you generally have no way of knowing 100% true the backgorund or history of the marbles accurately. Very few marbles go untouched since 1930-40-50's unless they have been buried in the ground. Some original vintage groups and finds will show up. But we all know they are not around every corner or at most flea markets or antique shops. -
The Cairo marble above on the right side edge is striped with a light blue/gray and narrow line of brown on the edge. I have no Cairo Novelty with oxblood. I do not know if i have ever seen a Cairo Novelty with what i would label oxblood. Many or most of the later years St.Marys Alleys have the similar traits and C or S or hairpin hook pattern as Cairo Novelty. Alley did make marbles at St.Marys with oxblood, some horsehair and some wider. Many of those were white base and green. This State Winners Bag has St.Marys Alleys and many are green with narrow or horsehair oxblood. Some of these the green is very transparent and some the green is more opaque.

Very little Cairo Novelty packaging. They packaged in mesh bags with Woolworths header. None which has ever been found yet. They had a box set with a picture of a camel and the Pyramids on it. Two or three of these box sets have been found. They had marbles in a boxed game called Trap the Fox. No complete box set has been found. The lid of Trap the Fox game was found in the rafters of the building after it collapsed. Gropper packaged Cairo Novelty marbles in mesh bags. I could post lots of Cairo marble pictures. I posted 28 today on another site. But here i am limited to two thumb nails per post without using a seperate photo service and more time and work.

2015 Des Moines Marble Show - Roll Call
wvrons replied to IowaMarble's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
We will be there that Wednesday afternoon. After a few antique shop stops on the way. Save us a spot at the picnic table. I can tell Dave B. is going to have a prime room. Such a suck up ! LOL ! -
I also agree with Alan. I don't think same run applies to machine mades. The same as i have said for many years. Are same run look alikes same colors and pattern ? Is same run a time period from when the first marbles rolls down the rolls continueous until the last one does ? At Jabo Dave made the same exact colors and pattern marbles in more than one run. Some months apart and some years apart. Are they same run ? I have seen 20 to 50+ very different looking marbles in a 2000lb. run at Jabo. Are they all same run ? Are Akro lemonades same color popeyes same color corks etc. SAME RUN. In my opinion NO. Maybe Mid Atlantic swirls were all made in one single run. But they are different colors. If you look in this thread the words same run most people think or visualize very similar or same looking marbles. But with machine mades they may not have been produced in the same run the same day or same year. They are just the same, look alike, near the same or similar. Then comes the problem of defining machine made run. What is a machine made run ? Is it a certian weight ? Is it a time period ? Is is a size ? Is it a style swirl, patch, ribbon, cork ? I agree that the terms Run or especially Same Run is just confusion with machine mades. They have lots of different meanings to a lot of different collectors. When the Joker "run" was done. That group of marbles start to finish was named Joker and later Joker 1 . None of the names of the Jabo special investor groups marbles that i know of included Run in the name. Depending on how and when used one word can define it describe it or cause confusion. I try to refrain from using same run with machine mades. But i have heard run associated with Jabo so many years. That i have used run when discussing Jabo. Because i usually knew the start or begining and finish period for a certian group of marbles.

Some people believe the horseshoe cat eyes were all made at Anacortes. A few collectors have got upset with me when i say Vitro in Parkersburg made horseshoe cat eyes. The horseshoe cat eyes were first made in Parkersburg WV by Gladding Vitro a few years before closing. Then the same equipment was moved to Anacortes and they also made horseshoe cat eyes. The horseshoe cat eyes followed the cage cat eyes. I think the horseshoe cat eyes were some of the last production by Gladding Vitro in Parkersburg WV. Wear on the colored glass delivery system could very well be a reason for the U shape. Maybe a shorther length stream from the outlet to the shear, and other possibles. Good to know that Anacortes never intentionally made them. That could also be true for Gladding Vitro in Parkersburg. Thanks Don
