Question On Handmade Scissor Marks

What should a new collector look for? Are they typically X or V shaped indentations around one of the poles? Anyone have pictures or good examples, links or books to recommend? Thanks again.

Hope I understand your question well,I think scissor marks you can see on handgathered marbles especially on Japanese hand-gathered (transitional) marbles.Thats how I think about scissor marks.

Hand-made marbles do have pontils.I will look for some scissor marks.

This you can call a scissor mark IMO,or a rough Japanese cut-off.

actually they are called shear marks and are all the marks we call pontil marks on transitionals. Hand gathered American slags have shear marks but they were made hot enough that they are smooth. Here is one site with some good pics. I will take some and post tommorrow pontil/shear marks

Here is a variety of shear marks that can be felt. I kept the pic large so they are easier to see. Ann, many would call the top far right marble a folded pontil. These are machine rounded, but handgathered.
