venwood
Hi all Do all of them have cutlines? Also were they made from a cane? I have heard that they are handmade! Thanks to all replies Stacy
clydetul62
They all have a cutline. Although, it's not hard to put a cutline on a contemp guinea. There is still debate on how they were made.
lstmmrbls
IMO they were made like other CACs except the addition of the frit is an unknown process. I also say there is absolutely no way they were made from a cane and yes they all have one or two cutlines, They show the exact same construction features as every striped opaque and striped transparent. Why someone started the cane made talk is beyond me.

lstmmrbls
And that is a ball bearing machine with a piece of metal stock
Steph
Another way to look at it though is that the design existed for 25 or 30 years before guineas were made. So it's theoretically possible that it might have inspired their production.
lstmmrbls
Maybe, but hard for me to see how a metal rounding machine(ball bearings)would have inspired putting frit on a marble?? Of course your better imagination probably helps you see things I don't!

sissydear
Machines used to make ball bearings were the inspiration for marble rollers that are still used today.
lstmmrbls
the same man did invent both. But the rounding part is not really what the discussion is about. It is what went on before the rounding that make a Guinea a Guinea
