kbobam
Chiberia! Ha! It's been very cold here too. Wish I knew how to 'read' tracks. All that's happened here this winter has been a little snow at times. But it's interesting to me how these small events make the presence of the usually invisible 'creatures of the night' known. ann
Looks like a hopper going left to right and a trotter going south to north.
kbobam
Ha! If you're using casual terms like that, you're clearly out of my league! (But they do sound logical.)
ann
I try to use technical terms whenever I can.
Hipocritter
Hey Bob, http://www.ebay.com/itm/A-Field-Guide-to-Animal-Tracks-Peterson-Series-Mammals-Birds-Reptiles-Insects-/221380713830?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item338b519d66 We have had one of these Animal Track Field Guides for years. It was a little tricky at first, but then it became fun to work with. .
ann
Jeez, now you got me buying books on animal tracks. I got a different one. I'll let you know how it is after I get it. Animal track mail! Oh. And I forgot. It was -20 here this morning, if you count wind chill, and I've learned the hard way that you have to do that. kbobam
Lloyd, the book does look like it could be a fun thing to have. And also, like the seller describes it, "comprehensive". Insects? Think I might need my kneepads and reading-glasses for those! ( : And Ann, I'm sure you'll want to make sure that your book is equally 'thorough'. So don't hesitate to return it if it fails to give adequate information about "droppings"!
ann
I think I'm supposed to call it "scat" now.

kbobam
Under current conditions, you're going to be in worse shape than Ann if you step in a pile of the 'stuff' we were talking about!
Hipocritter
We have quite a few of the older Peterson Field Guides. They are handy in many areas of wildlife identification. I am sure Ann's new book will be fun to have as well. Gulp ! .

ann
I am sure Ann's new book will be fun to have as well. Just to report, I knew I was going to like my new book on animal tracks and "sign" when flipping through it randomly the night I got it and this caught my eye . . . (on the weasel group) . . ."the word mink comes from the Swedish word menk, meaning 'the stinking animal from Finland.'"
Steph
I dreamt we had snow, and that was nice. Then when I woke up and there was no snow and I got out into the 50 degree weather for my run to the post office ... well, that was kinda nice too. And my reward on the way back was bok choy, bean sprouts and spicy MSG-free Shin Ramyun noodle soup (to be prepared half-strength). Mmmmmm.
