bumblebee
I found this oddball in a huge jug of marbles. At first I thought it was a Rainbo, then an MCS. Then when I brought it into the sunlight, the black AND blue ribbons sparkle with aventurine (unmistakably). It looks about 0.62" and that base color indeed does look like two-day old guacamole. Steph
That's one of the most hideous beautiful marbles I've seen in a long time. I see all NLR ... but I don't see how they could have meant to do that. Something went wrong with the base glass, doncha think?
bumblebee
There's no way the Peltier manager said, "Let's take expensive blue and black aventurine and make a few barrels of marbles using that rotten toad green that Joe concocted. Kid's will love these!" Edit: OK, maybe he said that, but I doubt he worked there for much longer.
Steph
Exactly! Hey .... lookit! http://marbleconnection.com/topic/15451-decatur-il-marble-show-anyone-go/?tab=comments#comment-132724 From 2011 ... so it's not a very recent name game thing. "Chocolate Hermaphrodite: Blue, orange/pink, NLR with adventurine, chocolate base."

"Chocolate Hermaphrodite: Blue, orange/pink, NLR with adventurine, chocolate base." Yup, that's it, although my chocolate has more avocado. I am sure there's a simple explanation but it is now lost to time unless somebody who worked there kept a very detailed daily diary.
bumblebee
I tried to photograph this "hideous beautiful" 21/32" marble some more with minor sucess. Gonna put it on eBay soon I think.

I would trade it to get back my mint Golden Rebel and heavily grey aventurine Wasp. I even reached out to the guy I sold my Golden Rebel to, but he had traded it long ago. I wouldn't get rid of this if it were worth less, but I'm told the last one sold for $800 so....every marble has a price.

wvrons
Rare marble. The condition might affect the $800.00 some ? Not bad, nice but as mades, slight orange peel. Your first picture looked fine. The last four pictures, three of those the colors look wrong. I hope it actually looks more like your first picture. bumblebee
This marble is very dark in hand and difficult to photograph. Here it is in direct sunlight next to Tiger Eye. I may not list it on eBay simply because I cannot photograph it fairly. Will be fun to take to a show if I ever make it to another.
