Marian
I don’t know what it is...Is it water damage on finish? Looks like a seashell but then it doesn’t?
Steph
Very likely wear from water. For some reason German handmade names just don't stick with me, but I found this on p. 58 of the 4th edition of Paul Baumann's book, Collecting Antique Marbles. I'llhavethat1
for surface finish that rough, try putting it in a shallow bowl of water and take a pic. The interior detail will show up much better. Looks like it could be close to the example from the book that Steph posted, although if the base glass is blue (appears to be) that makes it a fairly uncommon marble.
