Steph
It is gorgeous and new to me. Is it stone? That's what it looks like on my monitor. 2.165 inches is nice size for a conversation piece.

Steph
Stone is different from china and stoneware. China and stoneware are types of ceramic. Not actually stone.

hrjane
I can't read it, but the red would be the signature and the black would probably be a saying or motto. Wonderful piece!
Chad G.
I would have sprung also, a beautiful piece, wish I could translate it ??
Ric
First, I am pretty sure this is Chinese and not Japanese, and it could well be a souvenir from the Great Wall - it is very cool!

Ric
This is what I have learned, with the help of one of my students: The four characters are "ten-thousand", "mile", "the Great", and "Wall". Together, they make the phrase "The ten-thousand-mile Great Wall", which is the full name of this World Wonder. The red is a signature, and the character appears to be the old Chinese character for "cloud". .
