Chad G.
These are contemporary torch work glass marbles, probably made in China, very common, value almost "0" These are "Gutta Percha" handmade antique "Paper Mache" VHTF i.e. valuable $$ \Once you hold them in hand & see them in person you'll never mistake them again, good post !! I'llhavethat1
If they are oval/egg shaped they weren't meant to be marbles. The ones shown in the book are not glass.

Berryb
Gutta percha is an old type of rubber. They made golf balls from it for awhile. That didn't last long, probably because the golf balls didn't. Papier Mache is paper and glue. Thanks Bruce
Berryb
Dr. Robert Adams began creating golf balls out of Gutta Percha "Gutty". The Gutty golf ball was created from the dried sap of the Sapodilla tree. It had a rubber-like feel and was formed into ball shapes by heating it up and shaping it while hot. Just found the above on the 'net. Thanks again Bruce
Chad G.
I believe the actual marbles where kind of a combination, made using paper mache and the sap from the tree, color and a whole siew of other thing were added to make the different colors and the sparkly lutz effect, I'm not sure what they used as a color agent or lutz substitute but some of them are absolutely stunning. I'm still a bit in the dark on these as many others are, maybe this will reveal a bit more info for us ??
