A friend came to me with a story about marbles in old bottles

Even german handmades are in old Rum and Whiskey bottles

The marbles also were taken out and they make beads..when men go to Afrika in the past and gave it to the locals as gifts

Interesting to follow this lead , i know i will because i am very curious about this amd like to know more about it

Some examples in the pictures and it this rings a Bell please comment

They sell the "Cod Bottles" "Stoppers" & "Trade beads" every once in a while on Ebay. A slough of nice German trade beads were sold earlier this year on Ebay. They were used for trade in Africa as well as right here in the US. Wherever ships went the beads were used.

Just a "personal preference" & "my own opinion" but "I'd" make it worth the drive and $$ and get some good Antique ones. Quality and rarity are almost always better. Something you know will hold value & possibly gain it over time. "Maybe" a waiting game ??  but worth it in the end !!

At $15.00 each that is the top high price for these. These are later made not antique Codd bottles. Many of these were made and used in Cuba and else where. These more plain ones with no writing found in the US are about $5.00 to $10.00 each and plentiful. Again price or value can depend highly on your location and what is available. A lot of the very old Codd bottles come from the UK and Europe.  Codd is last name of the man who had the idea or invented this bottle with the glass marble stopper. Lots of info about him and the bottles on the internet.

Were the bottles made in the USA ? Or did the USA companies use bottles made in the UK and elsewhere ?

The article says imported, I have not done a deep dive on it. I have a $5 repop as an example, but always on the lookout.
