Jeff54
I thought, in the 1960's that Marble King used labels on their Rainbow Reds. Yet, searching the net for a bag comes up empty. As I grew up, in my neighborhood and school Marble King Patch and ribbon, Cub Scout, Girl, Spiderman, etc. were the preferred choice. The Cornett 5&10 stocked them. All the other makers were inside the grocery store, those were the cheap ones. Whenever MK made the Rainbow reds, nobody wanted them. I remember after 6th grade; my older by 2 years brother and I were in the 5 and dime and they had new bags of patch and ribbons with some Cub Scouts. It was a real surprise to see because, once rainbow reds came out you could not get a new patch and ribbon anywhere. , I wanted to buy a bag, at least. Tried to get my bother interested but, me going into Jr High, 7th grade, no more marble games, Kids were too old to play. I could swear Rainbow Red bags were labeled as such as that's also what kids called them. Anybody ever seen one? A MK bag labeled 'Rainbow red'

Jeff54
Schweet. Thanks Ric, had me thinking I was getting delusional. I am pretty sure those were made 1964 or 5. Not potentially delusional as I remember which grade I was in when kids despised them as much as MK cat eyes. 🥴

Yeah, I think most have that opinion so, although kids didn't like em much in my school yard, trying to set the record straight. Actually, surprising that, when Jill dug MK's near Paden City and sold lots of unsearched dirty marbles, I have more than a couple of hundred and, but, comparably, only a few Rainbow Reds in my boxes from that dump site. Here's two more MK points. 1. you probably have a bag or two that has a couple of Cub scouts and are different from old stock P&R's. I know I do and whenever Circa summer 1966 it was also different enough, which held me back from getting those: The yellow [Edit: Blue is thin, I meant] is thin and nearly looks like it was painted on. I'll add an old photo maybe you can see. 2. There were no names on bags; Boy Scout, Girl, Spider and others. Including Hybrids, these were just the common names the kids used. Or rather, for my brother being 2 years older, they were introduced to me when he was in 1st grade. Kids did collect them to the affect; they'd compete to get, at least, one of each verity and special preference for hybrids. I had a small set, 7/8 Hybrid Girl scout, 7/8" Bengal tiger, the same on big wasp and 5/8" verities, IDK Kiddy Garden or 1st grade. Getting or even seeing a Watermelon was almost impossible, even the beat ones were so hard to get because, whoever had the hard-to-find special verities were also excellent shots so, plenty favorites and specials got a lot of game play; knicks bruises and chips. IDK but recall, it was usually to beat, trick or trade my brother or a few kids, especially girls on my street. I can date that period because summer of 63 we moved into a brand new house and my new school, also brand new, had a few better shots that, I don't recall ever beating them. Which is why I remember Rainbow Reds circa 1964-5. They wouldn't play against them. Shoot, I thought I recovered my photo of a circa 1966 bag with new Boy scouts. But I did mange to find the photo I made showing the difference between Paden City dug-ups and St. Mary's. In this, on right bottom of the rows; two cub scouts. The right is a blended while the left , I chose it because the blue is very thin, like those I saw. If you have a bag, you can't miss them albeit, my bags don't have the thin ribbons it has, they are standard as older. They look like enamel paint; standard P&R style. Mark that as 1966, to be sure.

Al Oregon
The Rainbow Reds bag shown above is one of several that they did. Here are pics of some others. Gerald Witcher has been working on a book for some time and hopefully he can get it published. He was awaiting Beri Fox's final read-through, etc. before he published. He has all of the bag style, dates and marbles information.

wvrons
The new MK book will be large and very detailed. It will be released this spring. It is done and complete. Gerald did a great job with it for sure, which I knew he would. It took many years but the wait will be well worth it. It will answer so many questions. There will not be many unanswered MK questions left. Nothing near or close as this has been done on MK. I was so privileged not long ago to see it and go thought it some. I will for sure own one and have one in my hands for study as soon as it is released. The marbles pictured, are four sides or views of each marble. If a MK marble has a name, that marble is in there, plus all the others. I have doubts that any MK package of any type is not in the book. Includes details of the package. Some rare and very seldom if ever seen different items. packages, marbles and more. Like I said it is large and detailed. 2

One notable difference between the bag I posted and the ones you show is the crown logo on mine (I don't doubt you have a similar bag too). I guess we'll have to wait for Gerald's book to learn more about when that logo first appeared.

Quite possibly whenever this book is published the set of Berry Pink's Nov. 1957 Sales promotional Cards and signed letter with Akro Agates and St Mary's Cat eyes will be in it. Because the woman (Fanny) who sold that set on ebay, and had sent me all of her photos/ scans, said; the guy who got them intended to publish a book about MK. Having known this for years now, that's why I added the disclaimer of ownership in her photo's gift to me, when I upload them here, for helping her understand what she had. Expecting that the buyer may put them into a book, I didn't not want to cross bad lines where someone would dispute the privilege or copy rights.
