marblenewbie
The Last photo shows a closer of the Double Ingot IMO. .
chicagocyclist
I see an unsmoothed seam but it doesn't appear to go all the way around as you would expect it a double ingot. But the slight focus issue might be masquerading it.
marblenewbie
It goes about halfway around. Does it have to go all the way to be a double ingot? I'm learning.

It has to go all the way around, because a double ingot is the glass of two separate marbles which have been squooshed together. It can be a very smooth joining. So smooth that you can't feel the line where the two pieces were joined. But you should still be able to _see_ the line and literally see the two separate marbles that came together. wvrons
I have never seen or heard of any MFC slag double ingot. All the MFC slags were hand gathered. Why would a person gather enough glass on a rod for double the size of the marble they planned to produce. Plus the gathered glass was tipped and flowed from rod, then cut from the rod in the amount of glass needed for the size marble needed. MFC hand gathered slags were rolled out one at a time. Double ingots happen from 100% machine made marbles produced at 50 to 300 per minute. Double ingot marbles are errors. They are usually to large for the roll grove and stick together with another marble in the roll grove next to it. They are usually out of round, a crease or roll mark around near the middle of the marble. Because the hot glass glob is to large for the roll grove size. marblenewbie
Wow, I'm sure getting an education. If I can stick around long enough I may know something. If it is an MFC, which it appears to be from the visible nine, it can't be a double ingot; therefore, is it really an MFC?
marblenewbie
And if not it must be just a cold or hot roll that I am seeing.
wvrons
Correct a crease or mark from when the marble was rolled round.
akroorka
It is hard for me to imagine even a fold in an MFC. This is a very nice looking marble--maybe you convinced me. Marble--On!!
