Jjay
I found this marble in a 5 gallon bucket of marbles I bought at an estate sale. I would appreciate any info you could give. I am grateful for this website of experts. I wasn’t sure if this is a damaged marble or if it has a Pontil. Thank you
Fire1981
Unfortunately that is a chip. There are 2 seams on that marble which means it’s a machine made marble🔥
Fire1981
Your marble is either an Akro or MM🔥
Jjay
Thanks a lot Fire, it just looked like it might be a pin point Pontil that I saw on Mr Blocks marble collecting site. This just proves that I don’t have a clue when trying to I’d all these marbles. I hope y’all don’t mind me posting a bunch more and I hope you will help. I do appreciate it. Thanks again
Alan
Damaged machine made. If you look for/wish for "pontils" - you'll find them where they don't exist. Recommend you focus on the entire marble and the glass instead of glass imperfections.

Carowill
Excellent job of educating folks who aren’t aware of the science of pontils. Thanks Dave!

akroorka
This is a very cool shot of a hit mark on what I believe is an otherwise mint Master Made Marble. I circled the hit point. We all think of glass as a solid object—immovable—like a rock. The fact is that glass even in its hardest forms is subject to pressure and it will have some elasticity to it. If anyone has ever experience old glass windows and the flow that it has subject to gravity—you will understand what I am saying. The hit mark (circled) was where this damage started. The hit forced the glass around it inwards, forcing the glass around it to expand and be forced inwards. Kind of like a tennis ball that is hit, it got flattened out a bit. After the hit the glass could not stand the pressure without forcing a nice round chip to explode out of the surrounding glass. Nice example! Love it! Marble—On!!
