ManofKent
Thin ribbons on white with pronounced colour 'bleed' - fairly 'sparse' ribbons:
ManofKent
Broad blue ribbon on one side, just a thin tail on the other:
ManofKent
Just a wash of blue rather tan a clearly defined ribbon on one side:
ManofKent
Transparent Swirl. I can't see anything that would help distinguish this from a transparent swirl from other WV makers, but maybe someone else can:
ManofKent
Again with this purple and white swirl I'm not seeing any obvious id features - note it's more 'purple' in life but my camera struggles with purples...
ManofKent
Translucent blue. Reminds me of some Cairo's:
ManofKent
Hopefully these are useful. Red & Whites to follow. If anyone spots anything that makes these distinctively Heaton do post what!

ManofKent
Broad ribbons seems to be a common feature of Heaton's:
ManofKent
Not sure I'd have guessed Heaton for this one:
ManofKent
Broad ribbon, folded in half: That's my lot for now.
Steph
Thanks for the detailed shots. Again you show why I so often think "Heaton or Cairo" in an ID and am not able to try to narrow it down. I think probably there were more Heatons in circulation (can anyone confirm?) ... so odds might Heaton a lean in ID's. It's neat to see the trans, and the trans blue is very pretty. I'm trying to get hold of a few dug Cairo (much harder to find) to if not nail the differences, at least have a better idea... I'm pretty sure Heaton were significantly more prolific. cheese
The transparent one? I think that's just dirt/clay from when it was dug in the cold rolls.
Steph
A piece of Heaton cullet. I think the white came from Vitrolite. (Posted in another thread today, so I figured I'd add it here.) Blacklight! ... this picture came out pretty well. Gotta remember which settings I used.
cheese
So I was digging through some Heatons to find an example that I'm sure I have but who knows where, and pulled some out to take a photo of a prominent feature I call the Heaton Ear. Sharing the photo here... most of these are dug from the factory site with a few exceptions that I added. Other makers can have the same pattern and not all Heatons have this pattern but it's another tool in the bag. If you see this pattern and the glass is right, good chance it's a Heaton. Side note: I fixed the broken photobucket links of mine in previous posts that messed up this thread.
ManofKent
Useful id tip - they can be sods to separate from Ravenswoods and Champions (not to mention some Cairo) for those of us who really struggle with swirls. 'Folded up' is how I tend to think of SOME examples, but the 'ear' image makes it even clearer.
cheese
Yeah, especially the Cairos and Heatons. And Cairos have a C shape pretty often and so do Heatons... so our job can be pretty impossible sometimes.
Steph
Oh gosh, I'm behind on my reading. Heaton ear .... new to me .... I really gotta find where I put my swirl sample sets and see what kind of ears I have.
cheese
Heaton photo dump. After the recent dig at the Heaton factory, several previously unknown types have been discovered. Heaton has stepped up several notches into the league of heavy hitters. It was thought that Heaton didn't use Oxblood. Also no aventurine but I will show some heavy AV swirls soon. HEaton is coming of it's own, finally.
