mibstified replied to coolbrezz's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Have a blessed Easter mibsters.......... -

Christmas is comin.......

Here are a few more gutta percha mibs............

In hand it does cork but not as a single stream onyx or spiral. I have corking aces that have the same basic cork pattern but also have that swirling element.

Here's a wild cork......

Hey Again: Here are a few more........

Hey: I got some snotty pics, but you've probably seen'em already.........
-
Hello VTAndrea: The first two sure look similar in color and construction. The third one is a little different in color and the base glass shows more translucent than transparent, but who knows what variation of glasses and colors might be "out there" having similar diving-surfacing ribbon construction?
-
Hey again: Thanks for the looks. Here are a few more views of the peach and blue lace swirls, hopefully with more detail. Still mess'n with pixels image size so hope there not to big......

Hey: Modforms, & MrsMo they are definately sweet. Dave, the amber based with blue ribbons are interesting in that on the surface, the ribbons are blue but appear white when they dip subsurface. VTAndrea, none of these have cut lines but have construction similar to CAC opaque swirls with random surface and subsurface ribbons, only the base glass is transparent. I'll post some individual mibs showing more detail.

Mibsters: Long time lurker venturing out into post-land.........now that I have a decent camera (which I'm slowly getting the hang of). I was fortunate to purchase most of the marbles pic'd below in an auction lot with a bunch of CAC opaque swirls and Bloodies. Based on their color, as-mades and bubbles, I had suspected that these might be CAC transparent swirls. After communicating with a few long time knowledgeable CAC gurus, I have come to learn that these are likely CAC trans swirls, that the "old timers" used to refer to as "Snooties". I will upload some additional pics in a following post as I've kept the resolution pretty high and will run out of space. I also have deep purple, light yellow and light green examples that I've yet to photograph. I believe that the red trans swirls are what some have referred to as "Red Jennys". Regardless of what they are called or who may have manufactured them, they are gorgeous mibs. Hope you have fun viewing them.

Bump'n the Red Jenny Thread.........I have a few that look similar to the mibs in Ken's Red Jenny box. The first pic is 5 views of the same mib. The second is a view of 6 different mibs.

Hey........another data point for this thread.......I picked up three "Champion 60" mesh bags a few years ago at a local estate sale. I have not actually counted them but I figured they each had 60 mibs (59 nominal 5/8" mibs with 1 shooter). They are definitely pelt rainbos. Bill

Here is a group shot of what I believe to be my CA "Bloodies". Some are questionable as they are brown-brown verses red-brown on opaque white, but since their pattern seems the same, I keep them with my Bloodies. I'm wondering if I have any Red Jennys in with my onyx mibs. Ken, do you have any Red Jenny close-up pics that you could post? Thanks, Bill

Looks like a Pelt Sub to me. Below are pics of my Sub, with front and back lighting (I really need a new camera:-)

Hello PlanB. I don't think someone with "1st hand" info on their authenticity would be able to provide the level of information to satisfy the marble community, without revealing more than they would want to reveal. If you stop short of full disclosure, than it's just another 2nd or 3rd hand unverifiable story. What about confirming that the glass color and type in these exotics are consistent with known examples of CAC mibs? 4 or 5 years ago, I think it was Alan's board that had a thread going, discussing the documentation of the CAC color pallet. It would not rule out cullet reprocessing but employing the appropriate non-destructive testing to confirm the colors and glass composition would at least confirm if the glass was right. Maybe down the road, the collective marble community would be interested in supporting (funding) the ability for say, the National Marble Museum, to undergo such an effort.

OK….in an effort to draw a real world parallel…….say you knew a guy who did estate clean-outs for a living and held onto any marbles he ran across, to give you first dibs. He always bought estates in the older part of town, having access to many a “Grandma’s Attic”, so the marbles he ran across were old and the real thing. You routinely purchased his marbles at an agreed upon price level, which may or may not have had any bearing on market value. In other words, you had a unique and exclusive relationship with this guy, which was a win-win for both of you. In the process of sharing pics with the marble community and maybe after attempts to sell a few of the finer finds, some in the marble community began to question their origin, suggesting they might be fake. Would you offer the name and phone number of your marble contact to those who questioned their authenticity as a reference? Or would you let it ride, so as not to jeopardize your unique business arrangement?

Say someone had a consistent source for obtaining these marbles that was out of the main stream where all of us less fortunate collectors live. On one hand, the love of the hobby, maybe collector's pride or possibly the desire to add legitimate provenance as to their true CAC origin, might spur them on to inform the marble community of their story. Providing any credible information that would support their CAC origin would only undergurd the market value of their investment. On the other hand, I can see how it would be difficult to tell such a story without revealing the nature and identity of their exclusive source, thus putting it's exclusivity at risk. Whether it is a factory worker descendant, a dig site, legitimate or questionable, it really doesn't matter. From a standpoint of protecting an investment (and maybe future investments), there is no driving force big enough to justify risking the loss of that confidential connection to these marbles.
