  1. ^what Ric said.^ I always thought they were meant to be a marble and got whomper-jawed on the rollers. Like Pen suggests, a whoopsie. ..but thats just rumor and hear-say, so ya didnt hear it from me.
  2. Beauty is in the eye of the Beerholder same as with slow horses and fast women----> Dont bet more than ya got. There's my two cent summation.
  3. forgive me, I have sinned..... I have a feeling of discontent and resentment aroused by and in conjunction with desire for the possessions of another
  4. ^Ditto what she said kinka looks contemp to me.
  5. check your time zone default/board settings clicky thingy or do the time zone math in your head. either way works for me (CDST)
  6. Which brings us around to measuring marbles using “millimeters’ or ‘MM’. If God had wanted us to use the decimal system, wouldn’t there have been 10 disciples ?
  7. THE SKY IS BLUE.. what's written isn't always what's read. take the sentence" The sky is blue" When 10 people read those four words, four people know egg-zackery what you mean. They nod their head and go on with their life. Two other people will say "no, it's Pilgrim gray' One other person will give a scientific lecture about the sky not having any color..what we see is sunlight reflected through dust particles. Two people will read it and reply "Hummmmm. What are you really trying to say?" And here in the marble world ,the 10th person will whine and complain.. "The sentence was too long! I didnt read it all. Why are you attacking me?" Opinions are like navels, everybody has one. oh wait Adam didnt have one. in my best Rosanne Rosanna Dana voice…NEEEEVERR MIND Moderation in moderation edit to add.. just wondering, why do artist paint Adam with a navel?
  8. forgive me, I have sinned..... I have a feeling of discontent and resentment aroused by and in conjunction with desire for the possessions of another. well...that, and I just blew out a retina.
  9. I'm not seeing any handgathered marbles . All the marbles you have shown here look like machine made marbles. ...and I think the production of MFC Persian Oxbloods was Bob Block's pipe dream. given there might have been a few "close" ones made. I defy anyone so show a box of em...or 3 or 4 for that matter. (BT has one that might sway me a little)
  10. Happy Anniversary of your Birthday Hope you had a gud un
  11. Pen, a couple of things to look for..a basic rule of thumb you might say.... reverse twists (as seen on a couple of the oxbloods Alan posted), and the absence of a cutline on a guinea. ( real deal guineas have at least 1 cutline<---take it to the bank) both are pretty good indicators for the latest turn of the century marbles. mayhaps not a hard and fast rule on the handmades, but enough to make you seek opinions from the veteran collectors before you mortgage the farm.
  12. that blue 'n green one is sweeter than a summer breeze
  13. BJ, that is really kewl. Is that for the NASCAR "Weekend of Your Dreams' sweepstakes design contest? you can count on my vote if you'll take me with ya
  14. betcha Wally can (If that scribble thang jeff spoke of didnt get outta hand) ^agreed
  15. I meant any peltier without bubbles, I dont know why but NLR was the first that came to mind. I'd bet you could count to 21 with your cloths off.
  16. 7 pounds and 13 ounces? thats a keeper in my book. congrats
  17. good point,I didnt consider that. so the glass need to make a run of nice bubbly 5/8" Peltier sunsets would be less than needed to make a run of say, NLRs.
  18. In my advanced astrophysics class at Harvard I did some further research.. I put water in a graduated cylinder and noted the level . I then placed a 1” marble in it, noted and marked the level again. I removed the 1” marble and added four 5/8” marbles. Sure nuff the water came even with the top mark. I then tried with various sizes of marbles . In conclusion, the calculations posted here matched my findings. (ok, I made up the part about Harvard, but it worked in the kitchen with a large shot glass and a sharpie)
  19. Steph, thanks for splainin' that. There are three kinds of people here at Lou's marble Connection... those who are good at math, and those who arent.
  20. Great work yall, this is what I was looking for…thanky thanky. The reason I asked was--> I was reading in M!b$ “Big Jabo” thread where she asked why Jabo didn’t make more big uns. Ron replied that the cost of materials (glass and such ) would rise substantially . I was wondering exactly by how much. I started to ask there, but didn’t want to fly her thread to Cuba, so I hit the new topic button. half again as much or one and a half again as much?
