  1. Kewl! I think it would be great to get to one of the US marble shows. I know I'd like to go someday. Well, you seem to have a 'never give up' attitude and that is good. Something will show up...I'm sure of it. Oh, was thinking, if you make it to the marble tournament, maybe have some cards made up stating that you are a collector and hand them out...who knows what good it will do but it's a thought.
  2. Oh, did you happen to look up House of Marbles? I'm pondering that perhaps they have an inside line to some collectors.(?) Who knows but never hurts to try. :-)
  3. I totally understand. Some of the fondness of marbles is the memories of youthful days. I started here in August with my husband's marbles. When I was young, girls played with jacks and the boys played with marbles, so I have a lot to catch up on...lol I surely do hope this has been helpful for you and that you can find many others there who share the marble interest. :-) Felicia
  4. Hey Chris, Check out what the Marble Museum has on it as well. I'd personally not get rid of clays from around there. After reading that glass marbles weren't used until the early 60's. http://www.marblemuseum.org/tinsley/players.html Pretty kewl stuff!
  5. You're welcome Chris. I figured the same thing, if there is a marble competition, then there have got to be folks who have/collect marbles hanging around. You just never know. I wish you all the luck in your quest and hope you can hook up with others over there. The tournament should, on its own, be quite an event to experience. :-) Felicia
  6. I was googling stuff and found this. Thought it was nifty, looks to be rather historical there too. (Might be a good place for Chris to find other marblers too) http://www.whatsonwhen.com/sisp/index.htm?...;event_id=87092 :-) Felicia Found this for German marble games: http://www.schwarzmurmler.de/english/englindex.htm
  7. Hi Chris, Thanks for sharing the pics...they are cute. I don't know anything about them though. I hope you will be able to find more collectors there. Maybe get you a club started even. Doubtful you are the only one in England to collect, so they are out there, just a matter of finding them. Bet you have a lotta nifty ones. My friend in Weston-super-Mare says there's some shops/flea markets that sell marbles and you probably can find plenty of great marbles that we don't get here on a regular basis. Thanks, :-) Felicia
  8. Fantastic marbles Carole. So sorry to see your dad is not well still :-( Thank you for sharing the lovely marbles. Take care :-) Felicia
  9. Those little ones, in the 2nd pic set, are so cute! Nifty stuff Sue..thank you for sharing :-) Felicia
  10. Awesome! They sure made a nifty display too! Thanks for sharing. :-) Felicia
  11. Hi and Welcome Chris. It's a great learning place here. Lots of helpful folks. I've got a friend in England and she's the one who told me about the marbles in codd bottles. I'd have never known about them without her. Enjoy! :-) Felicia
  12. Hi Howard and Howie, Welcome in. Lots of nice folks here. I, myself, have found the Search feature quite handy. Lots of nifty pics throughout the forum as well as great information. I started by going through many of the pics in Steph's Study Hall. Have fun you two! :-) Felicia
  13. Ok...I finally got to a computer to see this...and...WOW! Awesome pics and information!!! Thank so much everyone :-) Felicia
  14. Thank you Edna. That's very interesting and good to know. I wonder if anyone has pictures to show if there are any visible differences in each one because of how they are made differently. :-) Felicia
  15. I've seen both mentioned but what is the difference in each and how can you tell what to look for? Thanks, :-) Felicia
  16. Very kewl! The 3rd pic made me think of veils. Thank you for sharing these awesome marble pics Carole. :-) Felicia
  17. Nifty Carole..what a nice thing to have on your Birthday :-) Felicia
  18. Thanks Carole. It's as if the rainbow had gotten caught up in a marble. Nifty looking too! I don't think any of them would be worthless because they still have 'life' in them and bring joy to those who appreciate them standing the test of time. :-) Felicia
  19. Slingshot? For marbles? Oh my. I scrounge around here for a marble and kids are shooting them? I'm looking in the wrong places..lol
  20. Hey Carole, the first one doesn't seem quite the same as most of the others. It's got a lotta colors spun inside of it. What is it? Nifty necklace Sue. :-) Felicia
  21. Wow! That's a nifty cat's eye Joe. Looks like it has eye lashes. The first pic made me think of a flying green dragon with black smoke lines around it. I dunno what kind it is but it's certainly kewl looking. :-) Felicia
  22. They are all nifty as is Carole. To me, it's like having Gramma's old chifferobe, it's got some dings from time and use but it's shows its quality and beauty just the way it is. I know marbles and furniture are different items, it's all in how you look through the ages from a product made then and now and how some have lasted through time. Got your message..Thank you Carole. :-) Felicia
  23. If they were mine, I'd leave them all be. I like dings, they may not be worth much but they show me character..someone has had use of it. I like the purple in the last one most. :-) Felicia
  24. That's pretty nifty! Thanks for that info Steph. And thanks to Ronnie I can see what it's all about...kewwwwwwl! :-) Felicia
  25. Prety awesome stuff huh...Kevin's got talent fer sure!
