These types are commonly referred to as transparent swirls. But they do fit the definition of a slag (white striping glass in transparent base glass), and long ago "slag" had an even more generic meaning. I've heard some old-timers use the term "slag" to distinguish glass marbles, regardless of how they look, from stone and clay marbles.

Well . . . it's definitely the same kind of marble. 😉 And this type has no name - very few Ravenswoods do.

I guess what threw me was your use of the term "standard" in your initial reply. Given all the different ribbon counts that qualify as Peppermints, I didn't think there was a standard. But since hand-mades aren't really my thing I wanted to be sure that the 4 ribbon variety like the OP weren't a standard that I wasn't aware of.

The "moss" part of Moss Agate refers to the cloudy, often bubbly, translucent base glass, which sometimes can have some yellowish color or fluorescence to it. I think the marble you recently posted in the ID section is a Moss Agate. Beyond the base, Moss Agates can have transparent, translucent or opaque patches or striping.

I get that, my question has more to do with the name "Peppermint" . . . so all cane-cut marbles with external red and blue ribbons with white are a "Standard Peppermint"?

Because it is a machine-made marble with seams (cut-offs).

Not a hand-made, so no pontil - just a defect on a machine made marble.

Akro Blue Oxblood - a sort of Moss Agate, I think - nice marble.
