Ha! So Bowie's daughter's explanation of how to do 'Valley Girl' talk may have 'ripped this off'! ( : Wait a minute..... Forget I said that! As an attorney, I have some work to do here!

OMG! What's happening with Audrey here? It's definitely not someone 'romantically' feeding her grapes! Thanks for the wonderful diversion link, Ric! 'Scenic' photos don't get better than this! It also cleared up what would have been my next question for you. So that one shot you posted is a 'Marble Mill'. That's one heck of an interesting 'production technique'. I was thinking it sort of looked like a catapult. ( : Here's a quick 'link bump' for anyone interested who might have passed it by. http://www.aravindna...h-partenkirchen

I thought some people would find it amusing that the advertising for the Dremel 3D 'printer' included marbles and some 'track' that had been made with the machine. But it was not to be. That's okay. I don't take it personally! Got me thinking, though, that we haven't seen any marble runs posted recently. Here's one I just saw on 'the tube' that was done pretty recently. It's interesting to me how these things are 'exciting' and 'relaxing' at the same time. (Kind of looks like a 'Moonie', but it's hard to tell.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MajvJpHbmWI

I really like some of the et ceteras! Sorry; couldn't resist. The photo is exceptionally well-done in showing so many marbles at once so clearly!

Naturally, having 'clicked' on several things 'Dremel' recently, I'm now being bombarded with advertisements from everyone in the world who sells their products. Most of them haven't been of any special interest, but one just appeared about something completely new to me. I guess it makes sense when you think about it. Dremel now makes a '3D printer', which produces objects for which their rotary tool is the perfect thing for putting on the finishing touches! Smart. And if you click on the link below, there's a 'surprise bonus'! Give it a moment to cycle through the changing 'background pictures'. If you have a quick eye, you'll see a couple examples of something they 'printed' just for us! https://3dprinter.dremel.com/?campaign_source=dremel&campaign_medium=website&campaign_id=3dideabuilder

Ric, what would the traditional 'number' size designation be for this one? It's definitely a little bit bigger than my marble which I was recently informed was a 'No. 6'. ( :
-
Oh shoot! Is that the 'cordless'? That's another good thing about it. Without the awkward cord going every which way, you can have your tool and the flex shaft in a convenient small case. ( :

Mr.Dremel started his company in 1932. He made other products before he came up with the 'rotary tool'. I have no idea how long 'other' rotary tools may have been around before his. The 'Model 2' definitely was around in 1947, if you believe the file name in the advertisement I found and posted. Pretty sure I remember seeing a 'Model 1' somewhere, but don't know when it was introduced. The Dremel is sometimes incredibly useful for a quick and perfect result in certain circumstances. But more often it's used for fine detail work that often takes a lot of time, as Chuck said. The more modern (I think) 'Roto-Zip' tool is pretty much a larger version of the Dremel which takes larger bits and other 'accessory' devices but also achieves high RPMs. It may be a more useful tool for a person who's 'good with his hands' and likes taking care of practical problems around the house without calling in a repair person. Now for the other responses. Your wife caught your dinner? It really sounds good! And as terrific a person as you've always seemed to be, there's a possibility that she might be too good for you! You lucky (bleep)! Chicken stew sounds pretty good too. And it's got to be really satisfying to 'cycle through' extra-smart planning! I have no options but mac and cheese tonight. But we're all pretty lucky when you get down to it!

My 'slow self' keeps trying to respond to Alyce's corn post, and other quicker writers keep beating me to the post button. In the past this has sometimes lead to my message disappearing, so I keep 'copying' it. Let me try to 'paste' it here, before responding to others. It would be so cool to be somewhere where you could pick some right off the stalk and cook it immediately. Especially if it was one of those areas that 'does dairy' and you could have freshly-made butter with it! I'm sure many of our friends in certain parts of this or other countries are laughing their tails off at me right now! But the situation has never come up. Nuts! Another thing to add to the bucket-list! ( :

Terrific! I looked for an image of one of the more impressive 'situations' to post in 'another thread' too, but didn't find one I liked as much as this! ( :

My favorite Dremel model is also an older one. If I had reason to use it every day, I wouldn't think twice about it. I kind of wish Galen hadn't mentioned his 12 volt cordless. Can't justify getting one at the moment, but I really want it! I can just see him now. Bringing one of those small, but tedious to do at home, projects to one of his West Coast beaches, and occasionally being distracted by 'other things'. Boy I really hate him sometimes!

New England Marble Show. October..questions?
kbobam replied to greenvwbug's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Since you've never been to a show, why don't you go as a 'civilian' and get a feel for what they're like? From what I've read here, you'll probably meet many friendly people who'll be glad to share their knowledge and experience. ( : -
This topic will never be complete without mentioning the best Dremel 'shaft accessory' ever!

All I know is that I've been jumping into the Severn River and letting myself air-dry for a long time now. I'm 56 years old, and think I look pretty good! My attorney has just advised me that by legal standards this photo of me is 'dated'. Sorry about that. Time goes by so quickly! I was probably only 53 or 54 at the time.
-
Ha! Sounded like 'spam', didn't it? Well I'm kind of hurt by your reaction. Would I do that to you? Here's the real deal, and if I'm suddenly 'no longer with us' in the near-future, it's because the skin-care people didn't take kindly to my sharing the 'truth' with my friends. Stop 'drying yourself off'! Yep. That's all there is to it. Let yourself 'air-dry'! Won't cost you a dime. Can you think of any good reason not to let the two most valuable elements in the world 'work together'? I know what you're thinking. Bob's already crazy enough the rest of the time, and right now it's Saturday night and he's probably in one of his 'good moods'. Fair enough! So give this a try. Go wash your face right now. Let the excess rinse water drip into the sink, but resist the temptation to reach for a towel. It will probably be more difficult than you think. Old habits die hard. I'm certain that in 5 to 10 minutes you'll 'feel' results better than any expensive 'spa facial'. What have you got to lose? (My attorney has just advised me that I need to let you know that I'm not responsible if your face 'falls off'. But don't worry! It'll never happen!)

No doubt about it. If you've never used the flex shaft, you probably love your tool just as it is. But eventually you're going to check out a friend's or coworker's, and that's that. Game over. You're going to get one! Here's a photo I clipped from Amazon for people who don't know what we're talking about. The Dremel is a fairly small and lightweight tool to begin with. But by adding the 'shaft', you take sort of a 'dentist drill' approach. You separate the larger heavier motorized part of the tool, and work with a smaller lighter 'hand-piece' that lets you work more easily and in tighter situations.

The Dremel was mentioned in passing recently, when we were admiring Chuck G's great work with it. Although there's no direct connection between this tool and marbles, I couldn't help thinking that there are probably quite a few marble people who appreciate it. I won't bore you trying to explain how I came to this 'connection' if you're willing to trust me that it makes sense somehow. I have a small amount of older Dremel equipment which I enjoy very much for various reasons. Here's a 'Model 2'. Wish I'd taken the time to take a nicer photo, but it's the weekend and I'm feeling kind of lazy and 'laid back'. When this guy is running, it puts out some bright blue sparks that make you think of something in Dr. Frankenstein's laboratory. ( :

A long time ago I was having trouble 'getting' the whole concept of standard marble sizes. Got a lot of great information from many people here. Was feeling a little 'fuzzy' on the subject today, so I went back and looked at the old posts. It was a great 'refresher course'. And although I did a good job at the time of gratefully acknowledging all the terrific help I was given, I couldn't help noticing today that I never responded directly to one especially good post. It's particularly clever, and I think worth repeating. Thanks, Ric! ( : This is how I think about standard (max) size designations: 0008/16", 009/16" 10/16", 11/16", 12/16", 13/16", 14/16", 15/16" & 16/16".

"It's all good" here! Really enjoying both the terrific technical thoughts and the side-excursions! Never expected the original post to generate so much fun stuff.

Cool! I want to come too! If there is some Grolsch in the fridge, that will be extra-nice. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SAIL_Amsterdam

Oh man! Don't get me started! 'Perspective', 'Priorities', it goes on and on. I don't question people's individual choices anymore, as long as they're consistent and passionate. What drives me nuts are the hoity-toity people who go in and out of causes depending on what the 'flavor of the month' is. For them, it's a question of which cause suits their 'image' best.
-
That takes things to an even higher level. It's torture enough to feel 'hopeless'. Can't even imagine feeling that way and having loved ones who depend on me.

Hey, Lloyd! I've never paid much attention to sulphides in the past. But this is surely a really nice marble even to one who knows nothing about them! And clearly it's even 'nicer' to people who do! I'm currently in one of my evening 'contemplative moods' and 'thinking about stuff' too much. (Please forgive me in advance!) Can't help thinking that most people probably assume that the sale of a high value item is always a 'celebration event'. Probably true for 'pure business' people, and nothing wrong with that. But my gut instinct tells me that this is going to be 'bittersweet' for you, at best. Obviously anyone 'serious' enough to be interested in this will be thrilled if they get it. So I hope you'll take some comfort in knowing that keeping marbles in circulation is a good karma way of 'spreading the joy'! Good luck with the auction. I've been pointing it out to a few of my friends who like to plan birthday and Christmas gifts well in advance, but I'm not holding my breath!

Gotta keep things in 'perspective'!
