As you can see, my years of experience have made me very neat and precise with this procedure.

This is the rag I use as a small drop cloth when I'm refilling printer cartridges. ( :

Thanks, Winnie. That was great!

I'm fine, thanks! Although feeling a little guilty for not emphasizing 'interesting' a little more in that last post. I hope Edna decides to read the article. ( :

Wishing him all the best! The technology has progressed so rapidly in recent years that happy outcomes from what used to be bad situations are much more frequent. ( :

What? You didn't take it all in at once? And Steph, who is this marble-playing 'Jill' character? I have a strong suspicion she's the sister of our classic buddy 'Johnnie'! Seriously though, the article looks pretty interesting. Although I'm still working through it. And questioning whether 'leadership' should be in the title in the way it is. Doesn't seem to be the 'thrust' of the whole thing. Ultimately, I'm going to take John's suggestion and read it multiple times. While I'm at it, I'll experiment with drinking varying amounts of coffee and seeing how far I get before I need to take a break. (It's interesting, but easy it's not.) Hopefully this will lead to my producing a government pamphlet in the traditional 'Johnnie' style. It'll be titled: "Conspicuous Caffeine Consumption and Cognitive Comprehension" -or- "Why Can't Bobby Blink?"

Yep, there's definitely a place for specialized delivery people like us. We're at the 'local' end, which for us ranges about from Dover, Delaware to Richmond, Virginia. The factory (in Packerland!) hires standard long-haul trucking firms to get the equipment to the local areas. So far, so good, since they have their own people there to make sure the trucks are loaded properly. But sometimes they try to save a few bucks by sending these trucks directly to the delivery site, where inexperienced temporary help is hired to move the machinery into hospital buildings. This can lead to disastrous results. The 'insurance' of sending the trucks to our warehouse and letting us take it from there is usually worth it. And sometimes the machines have to go through a roof or window, and even the silly bean-counters realize that we're a pretty good deal. ( :

If it isn't 'legit', then the person who made it is a 'bandito'.

Not bad! Thanks for asking! Here is a new 'front cover' about to be installed on a CT scanner. I delivered it early this morning to G.W. University in Washington, D.C. The reason my day wasn't bad is because a cover is a lot easier to deal with on a Monday morning than an entire machine. Also the fact that I was there at 6 A.M, which made parking and several other things a little easier. Normally I hate having to go to D.C. and avoid it like the plague. Why, you ask? Because our nation's capital is a mess. But maybe some of you already knew that.....

A dancing banana and an animated gif* avatar! This guy seems to know how things work around here! How's it going, Louis? I have at least a couple board-related questions, and also a 'stamp' situation. I'm exhausted now, but will probably take you up on the e-mail invitation for questions tomorrow if that's okay. Hope I won't make you feel like you've opened up a can of worms! (*The pronunciation of this term was debated on 'The Big Bang Theory' television show tonight.)

For the record, I always figured it would be fun to build a 'personal library' of smileys. Not certain if groups of this nature are only able to use the ones that are 'built-in' or not. Thought it was worth looking into. Every time I've gone on the web and looked at 'smiley sites' to find out if this could be done, I've wound up with one or more awful computer infections. I don't normally have problems going anywhere else. Of course this might just be some sort of bad coincidence. But I thought it was worth mentioning.

Separate from my being silly, I really enjoyed the possum story. Felt like I was actually there. It must have been one of those mind-blowing moments you never forget.

It's definitely a good way to describe one particular 'same run' situation. Steph, I've had some similar problems with my stuff recently. Both when looking at a preview before posting, and in the final result. But clicking on the down-arrow or refreshing the page seems to solve it. Not the kind of solution one would want, so I'll start painfully looking for errors in windows log files if this seems to keep up.

Beautiful woodwork at the store, Mike! Guessing you probably have a good place to store the nice wet marbles.
-
No question about it, Griff! No one orders the poo-poo until someone else shows them it's edible.
-
What? You didn't think that was super-cool? I was going for a Latin subjective plural, but I looked into it a little further and it seems like possum is American English derived from an Indian (Native American) word. So the 'proper English' for the plural is 'more than one possum'!

Didn't we used to have the 'dancing banana' smiley here? Although that one would be particularly useful in this case, for some strange reason it also seemed to fit in well with a lot of other situations. And as long as I'm on the topic, I'd really like to have a 'slapping oneself in the face' smiley. Given how often I goof up, I could use that one frequently! ( :

Jess, your marbles continue to be as terrific as they always have been. And the new enhanced photo approach, while not required, is just gorgeous. Those tiny yellow lines on top of the root beer in the honey-onyx kill me.

I appreciate the various responses that refer to the 'same run' concept. When put together they answer the other questions I had. Which, to be honest, I didn't know how to put into words. It's sounding like 'same run' doesn't have a strict meaning. But that seems okay, since most people will probably know what it was meant to mean in a given situation. This just made me think of something. Some Chinese-Americans whose original language is Chinese will sometimes mix up the English words 'he' and 'she'. Although this can be awkward, there's a really good explanation. In Chinese there's only one word! Because you already know who you're talking about! ( :

Geesh. This month's color is continuing to surprise me. So many of these mibs are just beautiful. Winnie, the way you put together that last photo on the white background that's already here is brilliant. I love it. ( : We've seen a lot of great 'pinks' here. Including 'coral', 'salmon', 'pink champagne on ice', and others. Pretty fancy names! Wanted to balance things out with a 'working-class' color, so I brought my pink marbles down to the local paint store and looked at 'swatches'. Confirmed that this one is 'ham'! (I'm kidding, Ant! Just wanted to make the story a little more fun!)

I've always thought that this was one of the greatest songs of all time. It was never reduced to 3 minutes to be played on the radio. It was 2 minutes long right from the start, and it said it all. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U-Y0SMitMpk

Same Marble / Different Sizes (Question)
kbobam replied to kbobam's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Thanks! There's more going on here than I would have guessed. And thanks wvrons for getting into historical and other details. I don't know much at all about the real marble production process, but it sounds like in a perfect world any given size marble would be made on a machine designed for that particular size. When it comes to 'peewees', it's always seemed to me that a lot of them aren't very impressive. But the ones that are, are really something! Maybe this has to do with being made on the right machine. Had no idea if there were machines for different sizes or if you just had to add a different 'attachment' or something like that. Thanks for continuing my education. ( : -
Thanks. That makes sense. I've been finding myself guilty of sounding like a hosebag art-critic a few times recently. Forgive me if I do it again, but I like the way the bubbles in your marble suggest 'motion'. Your explanation makes that clearer. They used to be 'another way'. But even though they're frozen in time now, the brain is probably capable of 'guesstimating' some of that progression that got them from one place to another. So it feels the motion. Or I could just be completely 'nuts'. Another thanks to all of you who haven't 'called me out' on this!
-
Lots of nice color variations in those! Pink has become more interesting than I thought it would be. Craig, are those bubbles? All the ones I have are round. Do they sometimes get 'frozen' before they get to be the round shape I always figured is what they 'want' to be?
