I thought I remembered reading Boy's Life as a kid, but wasn't sure enough not to look it up. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boys'_Life Son of a gun if they're not still around! Can't help thinking that it's pretty impressive they've managed to maintain a publication for so long that gets a 'thumbs up' from both parents and young people. ( :

Just posted this photo over at JaboLand in a "Check Out My New Marble!" kind of way. But what I'd like to do here is ask our resident glass craftsmen just what's going on with this. I've been assuming that 'matching marble stands' are made from a single marble of the same type. But sometimes they seem to look like more volume of glass than you'd get melting a marble. Is this just another one of the many 'illusions' I have to deal with each day?

Thanks. Didn't know if one inchers existed officially. That's one heck of a box full!

As they should be! Just as great as the Pelts without blue. Looks like you and William both have examples of particularly large nice Pelts. I have one or two which are noticeably larger that 5/8, but not quite up to your bad boys. Are there many Pelts at the appx. 1" size? They don't seem as common as those from other manufacturers in my limited experience.

Reproductions And The Damage They Can Do??
kbobam replied to lstmmrbls's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
This subject reminds me of a comedy bit I heard once. The female comedian was talking about her girlfriend who had just given birth. "So she told me she was in labor for eighteen hours. And my only reaction was 'Oh my God!' I wouldn't even want to do something that feels good for that long!" -
Yes! ♪ I can see clearly now... ♪ Don't know why I wasn't honing in on the poison bee. Pattern looks like other bees, and the colors are definitely of the badbutt variety. Which I guess is to say that they'd look good on a hot rod or the van of a heavy-metal group. And another 'Yes!' The black on blue is spectacular. Although given the overall marble size, to me it's more like a horse-hair than a stripe. The 'definition' against the slightly softer stripe is awesome. ( :

Think I know which one you mean, and it's a nice one too. But forgive me for being completely thrown by 'poison bee'. Haven't heard of that, and I'm not seeing anything which makes me think "Oh, that must be it!" Like your 'ketchup and mustard'. I still don't have one, although it's on the wish-list. Luckily I didn't pick one up early on, since it would have been one of the many shown on the bay which have no white. If I'm remembering correctly, that's essential for a 'genuine' one. What size is yours? Looks a little bigger than 5/8. ( :

Good stuff! I think I remember a 'Clyde', but not 'Marbles'. It should also be pointed out that Lucy, Linus, and Rerun are members of the 'van Pelt' family. ( :

Thanks to everyone for all the nice Pelts. There really is 'something' about them. Would like to know if there's a name for the larger marble in the middle of the opening photo. Makes a good centerpiece! And in the last photo, number two in row two is just insane! I don't get around much, but have never seen a pattern like that. Also, I'm guessing the last one in the front row is a Christmas Tree, but it's kind of fancy looking. Is this one of the variations with an extra adjective in its name? ( : (Steph, I know you're going to razz me for mentioning an 'extra' adjective when there isn't an original one. But I spent a while trying to come up with something better and failed miserably and my brain started to hurt. )

I'd like to state for the record that I hate everyone and their opinions equally. Including myself and mine! ( :

Magnificent. Definitely worthy of some Tim Allen style manly noises! ( :

I don't know anything about this show, so thanks to everyone for bringing it up, and to Bob for the specifics, which I now have programmed to record. Should be fun. ( :

Haven't had any luck with seeing the whole page, but appreciate the 'reporters with iPhones' line, which kind of sums up the problem. Although the endless 'liking and reblogging' at the end is a perfect example of the crap some people consider 'communication' these days.

Had to check out the 'artglassworks', and your opening line for your home page is the funniest and most humble I've ever seen. Unknown worldwide since 1973, Michael S. Barton is a mild-mannered eccentric glass artist with a home studio in central California

Latest Dollar Tree Blog-like Thing! Believe it or not, the lobster cakes don't look like they do on the box! All of the ingredients were definitely ground into a liquid/emulsion state before being formed into patties. Somehow. Still edible, though. Now, the cheese! This is a nice slab of cheddar and imho is the cheese bargain of the century. Let it warm up to room temperature to get the full 'oomph'. If you're the kind of person who won't even bother buying cheddar that isn't at least 'extra-sharp', this is for you. DT also sells a monterey jack in almost identical packaging. This stuff tastes like a hunk of candle wax, so check your labels! ( :

You know, that title wasn't really fair. It's the things they're asked to do in commercials which are. Although my favorite silly ads are the ones where the models are photographers, the ones where they're invited on-stage to play guitars and saxophones are pretty good too. Here, our photographer/model is innocently walking down the street. Suddenly, her almost animal-like instincts take over! She whirls around just in time to capture a shot of... a building?

Wasn't paying attention earlier when clydetul62 mentioned 'Zoning Improvement Plan' codes. That's a really great 'fun fact'! So my 'chicken and egg' question now is whether 'zip' and 'zippy' existed in the language prior to this, or whether the USPS pretty much created them. ( :

Apparently the only thing I've ever given a damn about is becoming redundant. I pretty much feel like crying every time I think about this and its implications. From recent New York Times article: CHICAGO — The Chicago Sun-Times laid off its entire full-time photography staff Thursday, including a Pulitzer Prize winner, in a move that the newspaper’s management said resulted from a need to shift toward more online video.

Flint Glass -- Akro Hype Or Something Special?
kbobam replied to Steph's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Although the 'sacrifice' concept could become necessary, the 'weighing' idea would be a better first choice! -

Well, it's a government thing. I'm sure they were called 'postal zones' and many other things at any given point in time. OMG I was concentrating so hard on finding an image of the animated postman I remembered, that I wasn't really paying attention and thought this was a mailbox. Definitely a lunchbox. Although the 'rounded top' lunchboxes do have a similar shape, so hope no one laughs too much. ( :

That's funny. Don't remember it exactly, but we weren't doing 'area codes' with phone numbers yet, so there's no doubt you're right. At the time we still had letters in the legitimate phone 'number'. Although they'd been shortened. My number was OR4-8186. That's how anyone would have said it at the time. But if anyone 'old school' actually said Oregon48186, it still made sense. Sort of. ( :

That's definitely really nice! And as always, the photo shows the color and texture and everything else exceptionally well. Assuming that you're still using the antiquated equipment that isn't broken so you're not going to fix it and ruin everything! Side note! Saw a show today where a mother was depressed about her daughter moving from one coast to another. It's already long established that both these women are coffee lovers. So the final line was Mom saying "You'll never find good coffee in Seattle!" And they totally 'dead-panned' it! The End. No further explanatory details. To me that's humor in one of its finest variations. ( :
