Okay, Jill Marie! Tell me about the background! These are nice shots of a nice marble, but I can't help thinking that I'm looking at the latest shots from the Hubble telescope, showing the newly-discovered planet "Orbachio"! Bob

Nice marbles! I should have known that the people here wouldn't just use any old marble that related to the color question. As such, I find myself suddenly realizing that I've been staring at a particular marble for five minutes and have no recollection of what the original topic was. Thanks a lot! ( :

Thanks, Alan, for the meticulous response to my 'size perspective' question, as well as the latest additions. The Mike E. Shadows are hitting me hard; they're somehow different from anything I've ever seen. And forgive me for saying that the red white and blue one would be the most exquisite 'Pepsi' ever made, if anyone dared to refer to it that way. Cheers, Bob

Another great Alan shot, and I don't know if the question was meant in a way that would require someone with more marble experience than I have, or if it's open to anyone with a color opinion. To me that looks like a pretty good range; not sure if you could take it much further in either direction.

Whoeee! Winnie, the reason I asked is that seeing your marble gave me a vague memory of seeing something similar being offered, and that particular characteristic was given a name and implied to be very desirable. Of course this was from a seller, but it is great-looking! Catfish, you may have hit the nail on the head as far as why I've been finding the 'clear' examples so interesting. I have the opposite problem that you do. As far as I know I have only two marbles with clear in them, and I don't particularly like them. I've just always assumed that I don't like clear that much. But seeing so many great examples is opening my mind. Alan! The Busby Berkeley of marble photographers! (Geesh, guy, if you'd put a little effort into it that might have been an impressive photograph!) (You'd better know I'm kidding!) Any chance of getting the measurements of the largest and smallest marble in the shot to get a better physical perspective? Thanks! And now for my best "sign-off" ever. I'm going to shut up now, Bob

Hey, Everybody! This continues to be terrific. Dani, I did manage to catch Mt. St. Helens before she disappeared. Just great! You can't even see the strings holding them up! Steph, the oxblood in clear is dazzling. You're waiting for the ice to be melted by the fire inside! Winnie, isn't there a term for that birdfeather effect in the upper-left marble in the group shot? Road Dog, your last marble looks good-sized, but I can't tell if that's a worn-out dime or custom made metal marble coaster. Cheers, Bob

The zaboo photo is magnificent, technically and aesthetically. I use Photoshop 'Elements' on occasion, but I can't even begin to figure out how this shot was accomplished. Perhaps she has a spectacular gift of "balance"! Cheers, Bob

I do too. Another one I wouldn't have expected to like. If you'll forgive me for playing 'psychologist' I think that maybe the sea critters are appealing because looking into a marble can be very similar to seeing what's going on in the ocean. It's an entirely different world. (Very "micro" in the case of marbles, but still!) Thanks for the name clarification! Have some more thoughts on this, but that'll be another post. Bob

I need to pick on Jill Marie for a moment. I wouldn't have expected to like the 'Fish' but it's mind-blowing. And in spite of your thinking you "can't compare" I'd have to pick your marble with the yellow patch and outlined red stripe as my favorite so far. (Although the second and third spots are real real close!) Finally, I'd like to ask if "Marie" is a last name. (It's not a common one but it does exist.) Or do you have one of those neat two-name first-names? Bob

Wow! Thanks to all contributors, picture or not, so far. I was hoping this would be a good topic but was a little nervous. The marbles are all beautiful! I think the idea of concentrating on a particular "color" might open people's minds to the potential of certain types of marbles which they might tend to ignore normally, perhaps subconsciously. 'Brown' and 'Clear' have certainly done that for me already. Cheers, Bob

I, along with many others apparently, really enjoyed the recent topic which limited those responding to showing only marbles which featured a particular color. As such, I'm going to take the opportunity of this being the 1st. of the month to say "Show us your 'clears'!" Any marble with even the least little bit of totally clear transparent glass is welcome. (And if you have a good idea for the first of September, please go with it. First person to post a topic title with "Color of the Month" in it on the first of the month automatically becomes the King or Queen of the thread as far as I'm concerned! But don't stay up until midnight; you'll have your chance and you need your sleep!) Cheers, Bob

Galen's marble is so "earthy" (which includes the sea) that it's totally blowing my mind. It has a slightly prehistoric look to it. Wow.

Great recent posts from everyone on page 3! That's really something that this topic is still going so strongly. It only goes to show how intelligent, creative, and insightful the original poster is! (You're blushing....!) ( : So although I've volunteered to pick the next "color of the month", the continuing success of "brown" is becoming a little intimidating and I still think there's really only one person truly qualified for the job! Gezondheid, Bob

A triple-play juggernaut aimed right at Bo! Hope we didn't put the pressure on too much, but it's just so strangely beautiful. Really something, whatever it may or may not be! Cheers, Bob

You know, Edna, I've taken marbles outside for picture-taking purposes, but I've never thought to spend any time enjoying and/or studying them there. Thanks for a great idea! Bob
-
Steph, I seem to be experiencing the "now you see it, now you don't" syndrome! I'd probably have to say no aventurine, unless it's possible for it to be below the surface enough to make it very hard to see. There's definitely none spilling into the white. G'day, mate!
-
Both great, Bo! But the one on the right is killing me! What is it? Thanks, Bob
-
Here's a PPP (if that IS your real name!) I just got. Sorry about the lousy picture. I thought the shape of the "patch" was neat. Didn't get to mention before that the reproduction box is great. With the interesting story behind it, Edna might have something that becomes almost as desireable as the original! Bob

That was the final line I was looking for! Well done! Bob ( :

I just realized that my new Jabo shooter can fit into the 'brown' category. Can we reach three pages of brown marbles before the end of July? Will Bob then be able to humbly suggest a new "color of the month" without being ridiculed into hiding? And will he ever get over the guilt of (unsuccessfully) trying to pin this job on someone else who's a very nice human being? Tune in!

Well, here's my two cents! I actually have a separate page opened up right now, just so I can immediatedly go back to Edna's collection whenever I want, because it makes me feel good just to look at it. It's just so perfectly put together and presented that it's almost painful. My attached contribution is also "my entire collection" and although I'm having mild "I'm not worthy!" feelings, I think it's nice that most people here, even if they enjoy getting into serious "technical talk" seem to share a "bottom-line" of "if the marble makes you happy, then you know all you need to know". Wishing everyone a splendid weekend, Bob

Hey, marboman! I was surprised at how much oohing and ahhing I did for all the "brown" posts. Yours also grab my personal interest for unusual and really terrific variations of green. (The ones with red patches look like 'other-worldly' pimento olives.) Really nice! Bob
-
Wow. There're just too many spectacular browns; I couldn't possibly send a "Nice! etc." for all of them. So I'll just say thanks to everyone for posting, and a special thanks to steph for bringing up the whole thing in the first place! (Maybe she'd accept being nominated to come up with a new color each month!) Salud, Bob

Hey, everyone! Just noticed that replying to a message with pictures reprints them all again, which in most cases is probably excessive. I'll figure out how to do it better for future replies. Attaching two types of marbles for the "brown collection". One I call "Hershey's and banana" (you can probably guess which one) and I don't remember how these were described. I think I looked them up and they weren't particularly desireable from a serious collector's perspective, but I bought them from someone who had hand-picked these as particularly nice examples and I think they're pretty spectacular. The other is a Pelt patch with a nice coffee and cream (thoroughly mixed) primary color, which I thought was sorta special. Just realized that I sized the pictures as if I was sending one at a time, so I guess I'll have to do that. Here's the Peltier. Bob
