Question On Handmade Scissor Marks
glangley replied to glangley's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Awesome picture! -
What should a new collector look for? Are they typically X or V shaped indentations around one of the poles? Anyone have pictures or good examples, links or books to recommend? Thanks again.

Picked Up A Jar Of Mibs, How'd I Do?
glangley replied to glangley's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
I believe that one is hand gathered, peach color with swirly ribbon. -
Ok Alan! lol Now can you please expand on that? That's exactly what I'm after

Handmade, machine made opaque solid color marbles. Although some have swirls in the glass, it's the same color just a different shade in the swirls. Maybe I should have asked, "Whats the first thing you look for when someone hands you an old solid color marble?" then followed that up with, "Whats the second?"

What are the tell tale signs, if any, that are used to identify opaques from the various marble companies. Were their companies that did not make opaques? If opaques can not be id'd down to the maker, can some companies be ruled out by size or color? Thanks in advance.

This little one looked different, but nothing special until I hit it with the black light. The amber threads that you can see stretched across the marble below a field of clear, fluoresce, they turn a bright greenish/yellow. It was hard to get them with the camera, but it was so cool I had to share.

Picked Up A Jar Of Mibs, How'd I Do?

Just a quick question, all my books are packed but I am curious... Do the diaper fold marbles only have a single seam? This one, the red and blue, has two seams and no diaper folds. Thanks! -

Which one are you thinking? the smaller one? or the patch? I would be happy to take some for ya and post them up. I have forgotten what that fold looks like and my books are packed away. -

I saw the polar bear too, lol! Yeah out of all the ones I picked up those two are just too cool. There is also a crazy red cork with what looks like blue and green. I see eyelashes on that one, but I see things like polar bears and old men in marbles too. lol -

The other red, yellow and white. This one is a bit smaller, with no visible pontils or cut lines. It reminds me of a Vacor, if not for the pontil on the other one. Just really cool looking mibs. But what the heck are they? lol -

The most intriguing ones are the black with the white, red and yellow. One has what looks like a melted pontil on one end, kind of a raised circle. They are just too cool. Any thoughts on what those might be would be appreciated. Very cool jar of mibs, still can't believe I found a bee with so much aventurine. lol It's a good day!

Happy Birthday!!

Those are sweet, lucky dog! lol

Does this person have other ebay id's? Has anyone dealt with them in the past? The user id looks familiar but I haven't bought marbles is so long, I just don't remember. With all those attempts at contact, I'd have to say something is certainly not right. Especially when no one knows who this is, yet you know where the marbles are that were used in the photo's. Good thing you used paypal Okie, hope it all turns out ok.

Ok, so has anyone actually talked to, or messaged back and forth with this seller? Just asking, I hate to burn someone at the stake on speculation. Not that I could ever afford to spend so much on marbles, I don't want to see anyone get burned either. Probably best if these auctions were avoided and ebay alerted, and looks like you are all on top of it. lol Curious to see what comes of this, if you purchased marbles be sure to update us. You too Steph

It's always best to go to the horse's mouth, so to speak. Why not message this seller and ask them before posting.

Awesome, and that's what I was thinking, maybe I'll have to get a ballot box now. lol They came with some benningtons, mostly white, some with brown, blue spots where they touched other mibs, or something when they were glazed. They are all small like the glass ones, did they ever use white benningtons for ballot mibs too?? I have never seen pic's of bennies like these, maybe they are not? But they sure have the tell tale signs. Any thoughts?

The first pic looks to me like someone was playing with a torch, those 'pontils' look like punty leftovers. Looks more like they were attached, with the shelf and line, not like the pictures posted by reddog. Interesting to say the least.

Been looking at those black ones, with the crease and the line. I am thinking that if they were created together, same way, then maybe the line on one is just tool marks, and perhaps the glass was a bit hotter when the one with the crease was made, does that make sense? lol I've been so busy I haven't dug up any information on ballot marbles yet, but I will for sure. Thanks Steph!!

Oh Yeah! Why not? Although I would listen to those with experience, or have one of them handle the job. It's actually quite hazardous to your health if done wrong.

Anyone Ever Seen Something Like This ?
glangley replied to hippie4747's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Looks like a game, or a lot casting setup. Never have I seen anything quite like it. Very cool!
