Question Regarding Aventurine
popculturizm replied to popculturizm's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Hi and thanks but that's just adding to the confusion, all the listing about "aventurine" have nothing (from what I can see) to do with Lutz, and the "Green" flecks from what I have read are created as an accident and this adds to the rarity of true "aventurine" , this probably follows the "oxblood" argument - were at one point the "oxblood" color referred to specific manufacturers (i.s. akro or Christensen) and their deep reds, and now is a blanket "description" regarding any dark reddish.brown by any manufacturer, I am starting to think that 'Aventurine" is becoming a "Catchall" color description in the same way. I am trying to find out if anyone has the original description. thanks again -
Hi I know that this subject has been discussed previously, but I am trying to get to a definitive definition of what "Aventurine" is , It is simply the color Green with flecks in it?, or is it a by-product of the "Marble Making" process that accidentally creates the "Green" Aventurine effect with flecks in it?.or both? any assistance would be highly appreciated - thanks in advance robert@Pop.

Hi are some pics of the box - plus 3 other marbles that look like they come from the same type box (only one box) the light green ones were taken out of the box by me - for the first time - all have clear colored base with white - and a ground or cut pontil at one side - all are slightly less than 5/8" box is marked "made in Japan" I would think pre-war 1930's era -
-
Hi the Japamnese box has what look to be hand gathered swirls with a "sheared" pontil and are all <5/8" will take some more photos (as soon as I figure out where I put the box in this chaos) snafu thanks again Robert@Pop.

I just acquired 2 tins of marbles from a New jersey estate - at the bottom of one of the tins was a 1931 "Tarzan" comic strip (folded as cusioning) . so I am refering to these as the "1931" collection or lot - the original owner got them as a kid and stopped picking them up right before he went off to war so 1923-1935 (or about then) I am in between Cameras (the one I have is not good with macro) so I apologizies for the lack of clarity and definitiion but these first groups have a lot of character - superman - christmas trees & rebels - very large Akro Blue Eggyolk and 3 Peltier John Deeres, the majority of the lot seem to be Peltier and Akro with some great Akro Imperial's yellow/white/oxblood and limeade oxblood's as well as some "flamed" christensen and other great mib's - the little 3 for a penny box is japanese - will post more when my new camera arrives later this week. and look for us on AMC's "Comic Book Men" epsiode 3 airing Sunday Night at 10pm right after the "Waliing Dead" I have a recurring role in the series.

Hi I have posted this to our eBay site (first marble item we have ever listed) looked odd sitting on a shelf of Godzilla monster figures - any questions please ask - price is negotiable , apparently these are not offered too often in this high grade condition with original stopper - and someone emailed me saying it might be a "laundry" bottle (not vinegar) thanks as always Robert@Pop. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1950s-CARDINAL-POTTERY-CATS-EYE-MARBLE-VINEGAR-BOTTLE-VITRO-AGATE-AVENTURINE-/390360946390?pt=Marbles&hash=item5ae35356d6 be sure to look for us on the AMC show "Secret Stash" airing in April 2012 on AMc!

Hi and thank you for taking a look at this, I am trying to research, some of the other items manufactured by Marble Companies, in particular learning more about and how to identify Alley Glass made glass animals - I read about these several years ago but have had trouble finding any information - I picked up this small Boston Terrier , which "may" have been produced by one of these companies, anyone have any info or a decent resource book they can suggest on this topic - thanks in advance Robert@pop.

Hi prices realized listed - some "HUGE" numbers - have to go thru them to find the "rebels"
-
It's all about the Hunt, but if some says to me that, they've "already lost their marbles" again I think I hear that at least 8 times a weekend well I might just scream...pop.
-
all fleamarket found (this weekend) .....I actually have cultivated a following were people will bring marbles if you ask them .... and yes that included the miller swirl and akro blue oxblood @.50 cents each......the real secret is if "the sun is up your already late" but to answer your question I lend the "Aging population" and a certain "lack" of interest and knowledge , people do not know what they have. How 'bout The Label On This Box ?
popculturizm replied to lostmymibs's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
your right also - "Christensen Agate" was in Akron Ohio, not NY (I vote fake produced by the guy in Maine) emailed seller here is their reply "Thanks for the information...I am well aware this is a new box as stated in the description. Regards....Bob" and he is correct - except the "Neat Box of old marbles" is a bit misleading -

Hi you can add an image but you can not resize or crop, so you have to get your images to size prior to uploading them to the auction listing, best to test it before hand or if you have a photo service you can insert your images using this hyper link in the html format page on item up date page <img src=http:\\www.yoursite.com\yourimage.gif>
