Great replys and information everyone, thanks! I am glad I didn't plunk down the money for that knob, as I do believe it was a newer one. It had the shiny threaded insert, plus a small chip. It got my attention because I have seen (rarely) some discussion and pictures of knobs, but not enough to be certain. Now I know! Zaboo, those are some nice looking knobs....lots of styles. I kind of miss the spinner knobs.......yah hoo! You can have them installed in cases of handicap limitations. My daughter has a Subaru that had one. Luckily she took it off.

I have been meaning to ask this for some time but keep forgetting....glass gear shift knobs. Which companies produced them? I almost bought one in Nevada, but backed off because it had one small flake. It was a bright green and white opaque swirl. I have seen a few others, but without any information or values. The price for the knob I didn't buy was $65.00. Should I run back up to Nevada and purchase it?

I did some basic research on the Gentile Glass Co. and contacted a dealer who speicalizes in Gentile paperweights. I sent him a few photos and he didn't recognize anything attributible to the Gentile family. He is not expert on marbles, but had never seen those particular colors or that pattern before. This doesn't mean he's right, but he wants me to keep him informed if I do find out who made this marble. David, I don't have a copy of the Block book you are mentioning, so I will have to dig one up.

Did Peltier manufacture these jewelry pieces? I've seen others, but don't remember if they were Pelts or not.

Is this a dump that you are finding these at? You mentioned that it took only 1/2 hour to pick up all that stuff....I'd be out there with a shovel in a heartbeat. I'd like to see a photo of the embossed beer bottles.

If you can get them for cheap, I'd jump on it. Are you interested in collecting marbles or just wondering about this particular package? -

I'm with Winnie....they're looking for an April Fool. -
You are so lucky to have been introduced to marble collecting by finding these in your own home! That is the best part, at least it would be for me, since I live in a mobile home! I hope you keep all of them and write down the circumstances of their discovery for future generations of your family, as they are heirlooms, which trumps the hard value versus the sentimental value. Great story and nice photos!

I'm still new enough at this game that it intriques me to see how many new marbles are sold as vintage. In a way, it gives me hope that these newer lisings are distracting other buyers and maybe allowing for a few cherries to slip through. I use it as a learning tool and to help me verify that certain marbles are indeed easy to identify by pictures as newer ones. It seems that marble sales are on the upswing and I am surprised at how many of these vintage marbles are being bought. The downside for me is having to wade through all the auctions and it does get tiresome. I worry that I might miss something good because I nodded off from boredom.

I purchased this large marble on ebay for under $10.00 a few days ago. I believe it is contemporary because of the left hand twist and the pristine condition. Also the colors are a little odd and the design is funky. I would call it an end of day type marble with a clear ghost core. It is just a smidge under 2 inches and very round. It has a single well ground pontil on the bottom. The top of the marble has a tiny bit of wavier glass where it was gathered. Has anyone seen any similar marbles or know of any modern makers? How about some of the Italian glass houses? Do they produce larger marbles like this? It has not been polished or buffed. All of the original circular striations are apparent on the surface of the glass. Any ideas?

Did I mention that our Siamese boys were long?

That does look very mucousy. I have bought several Akros from Gremlin, and had to problems, BUT I have been disappointed in some of the descriptions he writes for other types of marbles. Even a newbie like me can sense that he don't know marbles, or is deceiving. I thought his ebay handle is in another thread here about sellers on ebay to be wary of?

Salt Glazed? Looks Like Bennies But Not?
Ally Opp replied to Steph's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Good grief! If you really don't want those micas, send them to me! The only marbles I have too many of is cats. -
Steph, it is easy to tell that you only keep cats around to abuse them! Those kittens were good looking! Your big boy looked like a real lover boy. What is with his name? And do I see some white patches hidden on his back foot or tail? Wonderful!

These are photos of my two boys, who tragicly went missing about 6 months apart. They were litter mates, and Zoe was supposed to be a female, but the vets assured us when it was time to spay her that it would not work. We visiting these guys plus their other brother and one sister right after they were born up until the time we took them home. I had a surgery immediately after bringing them home, so they bounded with me like no other cats we have had. Both were vocal, but Zoe, my gosh, as soon as he hit the cat door coming in, he was howling to let me know he was home and looking for me and his brother. They practically lived on top of me. I really think my heartbeat was what bonded them so tightly to me. Whenever I had to lay down, which was frequently, they would stop doing whatever and lay either on me or tight against me. Both slept with me at night under the blankets and I had to share my pillow with them. It is a wonderful experience to have the trust of great cats like these. I still have moments, usually late at night when I am alone, where I break down just looking at their photos or thinking about them. These are the boys at 1 year of age. The darker seal point is Zoe and the blue point is Hobo. Hobo was born with a bent tailtip, so it was easy naming him. Zoe really was very female is his manners, but he demanded and got the most attention. They were really tight. Zoe went missing first without a trace and then Hobo about 6 months later. Same scenario. We canvassed the whole area, put out flyers, and a lot of the neighbors helped, but no trace of them. We have our suspectsions that a cat hater in the mobile home park killed them with his pellet gun. We could not prove a thing, so didn't even try, but I swear, if it ever leaks out that he was involved, I will probably end up in prison for assault or worse.

Steph, I cannot see the photo. What's up with that? I am just really wanting to see the kitties!

Someone paid a lot for it...I hope it turns out okay. The tan stripes look old, but those sloppy black stripes don't even come close to the quality of the tan. I think it has been fudged with. Too bad. I think someone tried to make it look like a target type ball for some lawn game?

Myself and a couple buddies drove over to Sonora for a Blues Festival (Fire in the Sky?) in 2002. Canned Heat was the headliner to finish the show that night. They bombed. I was bummed, but I did get to see Dave Hole, Walter Trout and a slew of other up and coming rythem & blues bands and workshops. It was a memorable road trip.

I have 27 of these cats eye marbles. They average 29/32" and are 4 vane, that go all the through the marble, and are loaded with adventurine. There is both green and white adventurine on the vanes. The white opalescent vanes are trimmed in an emerald green and there is one inner vane of darker green that shares one vane with the opalescant color. Very jelly like in appearance. There are tiny air bubbles in them, but they are not overpowering. I have no idea who made them, but maybe Vitro? They have the construction look of some larger Peltier green sunsets that I have. I don't believe them to be pelts. Any help is appreciated!

Marboman, thanks for the info....I know that I have some shooter size green cats with a lot of adventurine on the vanes (veins?). I will take some photos later and post them up.
