Polished, New Handmade Or What. Selling On Ebay.
SplattmanSS replied to manddrakes's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
I'm not familiar with a remelt or torch-made marble to give an opinion, but I think I see what maybe some kind of a seam line? The distortion I see with my eyes has me wondering?? I can say with confidence that at least it isn't machine polished....The light reflections in the picture show's the marble isn't a perfect spherical shape... Just my 2~1/2 cents........ S~ -
A Different Side Of Larry Castle...
SplattmanSS replied to Scoop's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Thank you Sue for posting this......I considered Larry a friend although he passed on way too quickly... Are any of these works of art available? Steve -
I'm not sure what brought up this subject, but you make some valid points in your statements. I quoted the above portion of one of your statements for a reason.. First, I also would like to know the type of machine and a price, as I may be interested in a purchase as well..Posting a picture with the details in the "Buy,sell, trade" section woud be acceptable since it is marble related, I would presume... I polish marbles as well. I have polished for several collectors to there satisfaction, but no longer do so...I find the same general satisfaction in polishing marbles that you do, but some folks on the boards will always oppose polishing for one reason or another. This, of course, is there right. To oppose as well as others' right to support....No harm nor foul in my opinion......until~ I quoted your sentence to bring a point.....I will site only one of many examples where a once valued collector, board member, friend and respected Ebay seller was highly criticized, falsely accused, harrassed, disrespected and basically run-off by another board members liablis inaccurate "facts". He no longer visits the boards, which I can't for a second blame him. I consider this person my friend and a valuable resource in the marble collecting community. He was so beaten, critcized, labeled and shunned at every attempt he made to defend his legitimate auction that once the board's "band-wagon" trampled him, his credibility went out the window in the general views of the board members. THIS WAS WRONG!!!!! I continue to polish my own marbles, although I no longer sell any on Ebay,(for reasons of there greed), I proudly tell anyone holding one of my marbles that "I" polished that one.....Without hestitaton, without trepidation, without embarrassment, without regret and with a HUGE smile!!.....Everyone is entitled to have there God given opinion, and so am I........ I take great pride, as it sounds you do as well, in polishing a marble to a high quality worthy of a front seat in any showcase... In general, I support polishing as a hobby. If a person is honest and asks a fair price then there isn't, and shouldn't be, any disagreements arising..... Marble On!!!!! S~

The New *popular American Marbles* Book Is Out
SplattmanSS replied to kris7047th's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
I recieved my book a few days ago and looked it over intently....I have mixed emotions about it....Some of the ID's are differant than I've heard on the "boards" and I've seen quite a few errors in the book in other avenues.... All in all though, it is a well constructed reference manual...3 of 5 stars............ S~ -
Please Read ........... Guy Gregg
SplattmanSS replied to mibcapper's topic in Marble Friends Memorial
I met Guy at my first marble show...Very knowlegable and always willing to help...I'm saddened by the news.. My prayers go to the family for strength.... Steve -
Cost could be another factor..I know the market is down on handmades right now,(Greedbay), and they aren't as readily available in the wild as Machine made marbles. S~

Looks Akro to me Maggie....nice! Steve

Thanx for all the replies..... In my opinion, it looks like these were intentionally frosted by whoever distributed them. Maybe they came as a set from an individual distributor?.... I can't agree that these were nothing more than well-played-with on a cement slab because the entire surface is frosted and it would have taken a great deal of time on a cement slab to cause that much surface damage to so many.. The couple that Roany shows are the closest in comparison, surface wise...Which strengthens my "set" opinion.. It still puzzles me why all are the same size yet, by differant makers I'll final polish a couple this weekend and post pics so we can see the interior design.... Steve

Some do have a resemblence to Vitro's Chris, but not all...even stranger is the fact they are a "mixed" lot as well...all makers....MK..Vitro..Pelt,etc..

Thanx David.....I searched every Vacor/Mega site I could find...Nada I saw a couple of auctions/BIN listing's on Ebay and found similar listed as "Beach" marbles....If I had a couple I would have thought that as well, but 30 or so isn't a couple... Maybe they were intentionally frosted in a rock tumbler or something?? (Thinking out loud). Steve

I have approximately 30 of these, all peewee sized and cat's-eye designed interiorly.. My question is why the "frosted" surface? I looked at my limited reference sites, thinking they might be newer by Vacor or Mega...no luck. They are all 3 or 4 vane, some with hybrid colorations... The answer is probably very easy, but I can't find it....Who made these? Thanx again, Steve

Came across this one recently.......Check out all the "Junk" inside this one Surface is wet mint!...5/8" Steve

I think the texture "adds" to the marbles appeal myself.... Currently listed on Ebay, by the way... Steve

I would never detach any of the pages or cover from the magazine myself..This would decrease potential value... Steve
