Don - I sent you a PM. If you have time, check it please. Thanks Rich -
V E R Y cool marble!
-
Ooooooooooooooooooooo - I like these - very unusual!
-
Thanks Jill - I sent you a little something in your package today. I hope you like it! Usually, the cullet is a lot larger than the original marbles and I don't take the time to take my glass shears and reduce the size anyway. Maybe I can make those pieces you have back to round OR come over and I can let you do it!

Yes, I sell remelts. The majority of the time, I melt together 3 or 4 (sometimes more) together. Jabo doesn't usually make marbles over 1" and usually my remelts are 1 1/4" and much larger so I don't think anyone would confuse them with the originals. I also usually "art" them up with contemporary techniques so the original patterns are lost. Galen - all I did was to round out that old cullet glass you sent me. Of course they'd look similar to the originals because it was original cullet! If you wanted them "arted" up, I would have done that but you just said for me to make them round for you. That said, those rounded original cullet CAC's I made for you would fool no one if they were placed in a group of old ones as the patterns were not like the machine made marbles. They were close but not the same. Were these people in Seattle that knowledgeable about CAC marbles?

What a cool way to display!

lol...thanks Griff Nobody knows what will come out of the kiln when one works with cullet. No two cullet marbles will ever look the same because the cullet is never exactly the same. Hey Griff, come over and we'll torch!
-
Galen - it's cullet from the Jabo Joker Salute Run! It is NOT a vintage remelt - come over and I'll show you. I keep marbles like this for my own private collection anyway as I too think it might cause problems. It was a happy accident and I just wanted to share with everyone.

I found out that these are really Alox 1" shooters. Even though I saw a similar looking one under glass at the Akro Museum and read about some Akro marbles, I was shown visual documentation by Ron Shephard that these were really Alox and not Master 1" shooters nor Akro 1" shooters.. I goofed by allowing my newness and excitement to overpower me...lol.... sorry I messed up!!! Galen - please remove what?;...lol -
It's a short name for a marble.

Not Much On Handmades....
richsantaclaus replied to schmoozer's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
The internal fractures probably will turn into bubbles when the center core heat gets hot enough for that to happen. The marble has to be heated slowly to a minimum of 970F and allowed to soak at that temperature or there is a possibility of thermal shocking and it might explode in the process. -
Jabo Company History In Pictures
richsantaclaus replied to richsantaclaus's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
I know there are some errors but I am depending on the people that were at the runs to correct me. It IS a work in progress and I hope is some way, when I am gone, others will find this helpful. It seems that we try to identify vintage marbles with little or no pictorial anything to look at so I decided when I was at Jabo I would do my part to preserve the marbles history. -
