I do not know much about this kind of marbles. I have not seen enough of this kind of marbles to say for sure what it is. Jeroen vV has more experience in this type of marbles. He had this marble in his hands, and was convinced it is a fused cane, and also that it is longitudinally fused marble. ( that was told to me by an other collector also) I showed it to Hansel also. He only told me that it is a rare marble. If it is something else than a fused cane, he would have told me. Jeroen

Also arrived today a rare blue core marble. The marble is a hair under 15/16 inch. The marble has a core of clear glass, over it is blue glass, than the 4 ribbons, than clear glass again. Jeroen vV told me that if the core was entirely made of blue glass, it would be darker. The pontil is highly faceted. I have never seen such a fine facted pontil before on a marble this size. They did a very fine job. This marble probably date from the very early period of hand making marbles, around 1850. The only marble I could find to which my marble could possible be compared with is this one: http://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/13086665_2-color-blue-glass-single-naked-ribbon-marble I must say, that I like mine more than that one. Regards, Jeroen

Today with the post a rare marble arrived. It is a fused cane. One half is a latticinio, the other half is a single ribbon core marble. If you look closely to the photos I made under water you can see that the inside of the single ribbon is different than the outer side. Regards, Jeroen Is it not possible to edit the topic name? I ment cane instead of can of course.

Which Are The Rarest Types Of Onionskins/end Of Day?
jeroen replied to jeroen's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Hi Clyde, Nice examples of end/begin cane clouds, but I won't call them mushrooms, as they don't have that typical shape. The one from Les Jones was not an end/begin of the cane as I remember. Jeroen -
Hello, some time ago I bought a strange looking onionskin on ebay. The ebay photos were not so good, but it looked like it had a mushroom shape. When I got it hope and take a closer look it was indeed a mushroom shape onionskin/ end of day single pontil. The first photos of the marble are in daylight. I has unfortunately some damage. The second photos are taken under water, and now you can see its full beauty. As far as I have seen I know only of one other mushroom that belonged to Les Jones, and is pictured in the book end of day marbles from Stanley Block. I know blizzard onionskins are rare, and mica panels also, but how many mushroom type onionskins are there? I look forward to see other examples. Jeroen

Is that not a view from the pontil? well, just checked, marbles have from pontil and top the same direction twist. But some of them I have first twist left, and than back to right. If I remember correctly Hansel has an onionskin that first has a left twist and than right, or first right and than left. Jeroen

Big 4 Panel With Floating Mica Blizzard On Ebay
jeroen replied to wadely1212's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
So, you sold a 2-1/8 inch blizzard onionskin in 9.9 condition for $5750? So more or less you gave it away ;-) Just kidding, I think that prices for exceptional marbles rised very much the last years. Who would ever thought a few years ago, that a 7/8 inch pink opaque lutz would sell for $25000! Jeroen -
Hi, The year is only a few months old, so who knows what will be on ebay this year ;-) But looking at the past 12 months, I would say that the marble on the attached photo is the best. Jeroen

Big 4 Panel With Floating Mica Blizzard On Ebay
jeroen replied to wadely1212's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Was it this marble that sold at Morphy in 2009 for almost $10.000? http://morphyauctions.hibid.com/lot/2585089/4-panel-onionskin-blizzard-mica-marble-?q=blizzard onionskin&date0=10-7-2007&date1=21-3-2014&tab=2 That one looks like the same construction. Probably from the same maker or same cane. I am not sure if it is possible to make make large difference in size marbles from the same cane? Jeroen -
looks old to me too

Funny Looking Suspicious Looking Pontil Mark
jeroen replied to manylittle's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
The photos are not sharp enough to see it good enough, but from what I can see the pontil looks ok, and the whole marble is ok in my opinion. Or do you mean that small rough circle at the top of the marble? I that is what you mean, that is not uncommon with marbles. See the attached photo of an onionskin I sold. Same kind of circle. Ebay Plug: Ok Clown Onionskin For Sale
jeroen replied to jeroen's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
The bright colored marbles are from a later period. Perhaps regulations about throwing away glass fragments were changed by that time, or they did recycle more of the left over glass. Perhaps it has became easier to recycle old glass by than. Perhaps that is the reason why they don't show up in your marble cullets and fragments. Just guessing, I don't know. 40 years ago big companies dumped all kind of waist in our rivers. The river Rhine had became almost a dead river because of that. Now it is forbidden to dump waist in the rivers, and they are much cleaner now. And more often they recycle the waist, to make new products. So perhaps this happened with glass also. Jeroen -

Perhaps they were just called English style because they were found most often in England? -

I think those bright color marbles are also made in Germany. Perhaps most of them ended up in England, because in the USA there were several marble companies producing machine made marbles. The German handmade marbles could not compete with the USA marbles, so they stopped shipping them to the USA. But they probably sold many of them in England, also on solitaire boards. This is just a thought. I am not sure if this is what happened. Jeroen
