  1. We got about 15" of wet and heavy snow. I practically killed myself shoveling out a long double driveway, only to have the city plow in the entrance again with mountains of sand-encrusted snow. They do it every time. You can be standing there with your shovel, and the driveway all cleared off, and they'll still do it, and gleefully.
  2. I believe Mike was referring to his new MARBLES, not whatever it is that YOU may have thought he was referring to, Marie, you genius you... heh heh
  3. This is what I could find. Link "Pearlies" are pearl like, often white with a colour running throughthem. A black pearly with a narrow vertical strip of colour is a cat'seye. A green pearly is a froggy. A pearly with many dots of colour is aSpotted Dick. "Oilies" have an iridescent quality similar to the shadesproduced by oil on water. "Clearies" are clear, transparent marbles andred, blue and green clearies are all possibilities. Link Spotted dicks. Very rare, blue glass with coloured dots on it.
  4. How about black n blue, cuz of all the bashing going on around here...

I don't think I would group the Ravenswood "corals" in that link, with these Corals. Wouldn't look right, IMO.

Hi Kevin Could you provide a link to Alan's luscious Ravenswood thread, please?

So, aside from the one that is probably Akro, are all my Corals, Champion, except the transparent-based one is probably Alley? Are there any Ravenswoods in the picture?
  8. Here's a pretty amazing centerpiece, all made out of one slab of wood.

I am suspicious of that one also, and it's a corkscrew, too, so it probably is Akro. But it's on a translucent green base that is a similar color to the corals, and the coral color is very nearly like the other corals, so why couldn't it be called a Coral? I don't know, I'm asking.
  10. Dear Leonel, I am truly sorry if I offended you with this tacky thread that I started. I am NOT being sarcastic here, however it may appear to OTHERS. I had no idea that you were VERY RICH. So NOW I understand why you bid the way you do (or why your wife spends your money the way she does). I, on the other hand, am just a poor slob who is barely getting by, so I have to watch every penny. I shouldn't even be a marble collector, because I REALLY CAN'T AFFORD to be one. SO, looks like maybe I am the one who is off MY rocker! Yours truly, m!b$ P.S.: You must be a REAL HUNK!!! Could you please send me a photo or two??
  11. If you had the intelligence to read between the lines, Galen, you would have understood that my last comment was actually directed toward people like YOU, NOT Leonel. I am sure that Leonel is a true gentlemen, from what I have been (privately) told about him, from people who know him personally. And if he has money to burn, why not spend it any way he chooses. I am in absolute agreement with you on one point: Leonel would not be upset by this thread. He just MAY even find it slightly humorous, as it was intended to be.
  12. Hey Leonel (or your wife), I think your bids are JUST FINE!! Please don't go hunting me down so you can beat me up (you being a weightlifter and all...)
  13. I don't need to read my first sentence. I know very well what it says. Edited version of my first sentence: "Looks like ol' Leonel's BIDS are still off THEIR rocker...and somebody else's BIDS are off THEIR rocker, TOO." Sure hope that clears THAT up.
  14. It shouldn't take too much discernment to realize that my comment was actually about the bid, not the person, since I know NOTHING about Leonel.
  15. I wasn't aware that there were any "right reasons" for collecting marbles.
  16. Looks like ol' Leonel is still off his rocker...and somebody else, too... Crazy Heh heh

Anybody think any of the marbles shown are something other than Champion? And if so, why do you think so? wvrons, where are you??
  18. I don't know how single-color ribbons could flip-flop...?
  19. A very pretty marble! Pretty Big Marble
  20. This was Sue's post: I really don't want to sound like a marble snob, but I probably will...... Those are the marbles that made early collectors laugh at people sitting around oogling over machine-mades!! They are "The Holy Grail" types of marbles... If you run across one in the wild, your a legend......Toyota owners, meet the Ferraris!! ------------ QUOTE ---------- Shipping is only 35.00$...... ----------------------------- Wow... I'm surprised. I can understand the security of shipping that sort of thing. But, that seems pretty harsh...
  21. Based on their looks alone, I wouldn't have gone higher than about $25.00 on any of them, especially that child's scribble called a lightning strike. HOWEVER, I know that some other collectors would pay MUCH more for them, so I might have gone as high as a couple hundred, and hoped to make a nice little profit when I (immediately) resold them.
  22. ...that went for big bucks. Big Maglite Indian Big Clambroth Big Lightning Strike ...what I couldn't have done with all that $...!!

Is it the general consensus that these are Champion?
