I had an opportunity to buy a dug chunk of guinea "cane". Normally this is out of my wheelhouse but was too interesting to pass on, at least until it's final price was realized. Can't comment on the rest but there does seem to be physical evidence to support part of the manufacturing process.

Looks brushed so no...a common feature on pelt slags that don't have a lot of white is that the striping carries through the transparent base glass with a ripple effect like what happens when you dissolve a lot of sugar into water. Why it does this I have no idea
-
CA slags at that size are extremely rare and while they do have a strong tendency to be hand gathered in that small population these don't really have the "look" to me.

To find: the missing link, a peach Peltier slag...just for controversy To have: a pristine moss agate MFC
-
Yes. Glass seems soft on them or kids really loved using them, either way, prone to bruises even at a glance.

Just an opinion but I think what you've got here is a lot more interesting and rarer than just a brick...a hand gathered Christensen opaque. I have this exact color combination and these don't come around often

German, and that's going off a couple photos As a side note all I'm interested in is some additional photos to try and understand why people feel the way they do. If I threw a couple cerise out of a box into a big pile of reds of comparable pattern and size I wouldn't be able to tell the difference and this is specifically what I collect. If there's a way to differentiate I'd like to learn and if big ones exist I'd like to see those to learn as well. Who knows maybe I already own one and assumed it was something else -

A serious question...I'd go a completely different direction with the slag in the s&s thread so, what would I be looking for in traits on a bonafide peltier slag at 1" +/-? -

23/32 - 3/4 feathered but very rare and of a limited color palette...would be interested in seeing photos of anything significantly larger -
Canadian Transitionals?

Supposedly prospecting country in western Canada though we will likely never know because the owner of the collection most of those came from, and mine, has long since passed away without ever finding a definitive answer. Edit: Should probably also note that while the two color opaques are probably the most famous there is also a slag palette of green, aqua, brown, purple, orange, vaseline and cobalt. There is also an exceptionally rare type that is opaque yellow on a transparent green base. -
German, easy way to tell is that the ends are typically straight seam to seam where CA will be normal-abnormal in an S shape. Base glass is also of a lower quality with less vibrant colors. Also, not a peach, they are pinkish/brown in hand but bright pink when backlit.

Looks good for CA (ovalized 9, shear pattern, glass clarity/quality)...hard to find size as well
-
Feathered Pelts have seams, they aren't always super obvious but they are there
-
There do exist examples that are in the 3/8-15/32" range on the one end and 1-1/8" on the other. 13/16" is a very difficult size to find in particular. The larger sizes are almost always handgathered especially at or over an inch and are very rare. Peewees are desireable but not as rare as their larger counterparts.
-
Short answer: Maybe Long answer: I'm not a packaging collector so taking a stab at one that didn't come straight out of a box would be iffy. I have seen examples claimed to be handgathered peltiers and to my eye at least they are fairly unremarkable in terms of distinguishing characteristics.

Those two appear to be slags, the second is a bit more interesting than the first. That one may actually be a Christensen
-
What I'm seeing are (mostly) swirls
-
Absolutely certain its not CA, but if I ever turn up a peach one of these then there probably does need to be a conversation on who did what and where
-
Title spoils it I guess...These do apparently exist it just took almost 20 years to finally find one that left no room for doubt.

The green is, from memory, just a different oxidization state of the copper that makes oxblood look the way it does... normally as a red opaque. Black/ox and white/ox are really the primary mixes but there is a big range in variation for end result to the eye. Typically on a "green brick" yes the green is much darker and can look black until backlit in just the right way. This is because the normal opaque oxblood does a great job interfering with transparency unless it happens to be very thin and at the surface as yours is. It is also possible to have lavender and blue in the mix with oxblood tracing the gather pattern (both very rare) and incidental oxblood in aquas which tends to be at the shear rather than throughout.

Looks real to me...if it gets lonely I can think of a great home where it can be with it's siblings
