Very nice!!!! Gotta be ridiculously hard to find one of them let alone 2! -Brad
-
Thats the one! My own personal idea of "ultimate" handmades would have to be a tie between that millefiori paperweight and a large ribbon core onionskin. You've got some killer stuff man! -Brad
-
You've got to be kidding me.... This is pretty insane, but I still think that paperweight you have takes the cake. Actually thats probably my personal favorite out of everything you've ever posted here. -Brad
-
Well Brad, I messed up your name (I went back and fixed it) and missed out on a great slag as well. I guess that makes me 0/2. You seem to come across some amazing marbles. If you ever come across an electric orange slag I'd be extremely interested. -Brad
-
Just goes to show what effect supply and demand can have on something with a very limited population. I'd still happily pay $11.74 for a box but I don't think thats in the cards. -Brad

Lefties are about 1 in 10. You'd have to have someone who was both a lefty and a glass worker. If you follow this link: http://akronmarbles.com/mf_christensen_son_co.htm Take a good look at the furnace photos and you'll see the punty was dug into the right hand side of the furnace. It could boil down to personal preference but the amount of wear on the right side of the MFC furnace definetly shows a bias towards clockwise gathering. -Brad Edit: On the subject of slags, did you ever unload that large peach CA Brad? If not I would happily volunteer a foster home for it

I can't find or produce any anecdotal evidence of a 15/16 slag that is definetly a Peltier product. A whole box of them would be something to see, the amount of feathering on a marble that size would be something else. -Brad
-
What I wouldn't give to find them for so cheap . I wonder what the equivalent price would be, not in secondary market, but rather today's dollar... -Brad
-
I swiped Alan's image here...Its for a diaperfold, I have to figure a handgather could just be a nice bonus feature to a regular one seamer CA. The bottom 2 photos in the 4 panel view really show this feature off nicely. No argument from me about the difficulty with the reds, they can be tough to pin down especially when HG. -Brad

The loopback at the seam in the bottom left photo sure looks CA to me! Gorgeous slag! -Brad

Sort of on track with this topic: http://cgi.ebay.com/1-5-8-Brian-Grahm-Blue...1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.com/1-9-16-Brian-Grahm-Con...1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.com/1-7-16-Brian-Grahm-Gre...1QQcmdZViewItem I don't recognize the eBay ID. If they are yours I suppose I just gave you a free plug If not they are offering a guarantee of authenticity in your name in the listing. -Brad Edit: Oh yeah...theres some oxblood ones in there somewhere for sale, check em out.

No shear marks = Thumbs way way up -Brad
-
I'm pretty sure their size is a major disqualifying factor...that and the pontil mark. If one could get past all that then seeing a glut of large mint condition green and crystal bricks is definetly going to raise some eyebrows. Not that it would happen...I am just saying. -Brad

Just don't make them with purple and I'll keep quiet -Brad

You guys sure do have some wild handmades over there! I would only expect to see these sorts of things in the "oddballs" section of a book Thanks for sharing! -Brad -
^^^Ditto. You won't find pontil marks on them either, they were supposedly all handgathered and sheared. -Brad

#1, #2, #6, #7, and #9 are all things I have seen before. The rest of them I just tried to make the best educated guess I could stick out there. #8 in particular has me stumped I guess we could just call it "marble". -Brad -

Some of these I've only seen in books but I'll take a crack at classifying them since there are more than just latticinios here. Feel free to correct me JVV or others. 1. Naked Single Ribbon Core 2. 2 Stage Single Ribbon Core 3. Ribbon Core Latticinio 4. Coreless Swirl or one Crazy Naked Double Ribbon Core 5. 2 Stage Ribbon Core Latticinio or a 2 Stage Double Ribbon Core 6. Green Base Glass Latticinio Swirl 7. Blue Base Glass Latticinio Swirl 8. Never seen anything like this, maybe JVV has a name for it? 9. Ridged Solid Core Swirl I dabble in the handmades but I am nowhere near the pro JVV and others are. -Brad -

Colored base glass latticinios are KILLER! -Brad -
That coral?/green looks like it has a handgather in the green. I am pretty sure I've seen Gary (BR549) post an identical color combo out of his collection. This type would be part of the unknowns, the possibly Canadian ones... http://www.landofmarbles.com/phpbb/showthread.php?t=8536 That was the original thread I believe, but the images are long gone. What does the other end of this marble look like? Or is it just a portion? -Brad
-
Yes, its similar in style to the slag identification photo but instead shows the different types of pontils marbles can have. -Brad Edit: Slag-like transitionals can have all pontil types except I believe bullet mold.
-
Unfortunately I didn't yank the photo off the post. I checked LoM to see some of the older pontil threads and it looks like the photo is gone from there as well. The comparitive shots you had of the different types all in one image was a great reference, I wish I had archived it now. -Brad
-
Hopefully Dan will read this and post his pontil ID photo for you. I don't think he would mind me borrowing it, but the way things have been lately I'd just as soon wait for him to come around and check back on this thread. The base glass seems to be more of a transparent red. If this is true then I would have to rule out a slag. The rest looks cream/brown which should have a transparent brown base to match. -Brad
-
Has a handgathered look to it, but seems kind of odd for a slag. Does it have a pontil? -Brad
-
1 1/32" Its a little chewed on but I don't mind. This is a great thread you started RD, I am hopeful that the controversy has passed enough for the real big guns in the hobby to stop by and post some pics. Theres always some rare and spectacular examples that show up on this board. -Brad
